Picking a good route to work

Posted on June 23, 2012 at 19:25 9 Comments

I thought I'd share the route I take when I'm riding to work as an example of how to not think like a car driver when choosing a route that is safe and enjoyable to ride. It isn't perfect but it is the best I've come up with so far. If you have suggestions on how to improve it let me know.

I used to ride through the Southern park lands and down Greenhill Rd but was not happy with the speed and safety. The park lands are slow and Greenhill Rd, particularly in the morning, is dangerous.…

Great morning for a ride

Posted on June 17, 2012 at 12:20 0 Comments

After a week or so off the bike due to work pressures it was good to get out for a mountain bike ride this morning.

While driving over to Stirling I was surprised to see plenty of roadies out on the wet roads. Good to see. However, on the way back when the fog had set in it was not so good to see that most of the roadies didn't have any lights. It is winter folks. The weather changes rapidly. Bring your lights regardless of how sunny it may be in the 'burbs when you walk out your…

Surly Long Haul Trucker update

Posted on June 3, 2012 at 17:21 4 Comments

The LHT has been in service now for three years so an update is due. Where does time go!?

The LHT has been performing very well and very reliably as a commuter. I'm still riding it to work up to three times a week and enjoy every ride. I wish I had time to take it on longer rides.

The big news is that the LHT now has a disc front brake. Surly started selling the Disc Trucker a while ago and decided to also sell the disc fork. As I've mentioned in previous posts the braking is…

"I just like to ride my bike and have fun"

A great quote from Melissa Ansett after she won the Ingkerreke Commercial Mountain Bike Enduro at Alice Springs.

“Last time I just rode, this time I was raced it. But I didn’t think I would win, so it was a really nice surprise. Kind of weird in a way as I just enjoy riding, and do a few local races in my area, so to win a big event like this is pretty huge."

“It’s given me some confidence, and I’m not usually confident. But I’m not about to get a coach. I just like to…

Which one do you mean, the big one or the smaller A frame one?

The A frame one came from

No links for the big one though.

Sorry about the delay, have been off work with a cold and a couple of days off.

Hi Luke,

Yep got your message and joined up just before going home last night.

Tracey and I are both well and looking forward to a few days off over Easter to get a bit more done around the house.

Not much riding lately but it should be easier to ride to work now that daylight savings has ended.
