The Grand Tours of Grand Tours, the pièce de résistance, la grande boucle... This year marks the 100th Tour since 1903 when L'Auto, like every other news paper, organised a race to help sell papers. The others however did not have Henri Desgrange at the helm creating the harshest of routes, the most insane rules and the palette that is France. The 21 stages over 23 days will see Froome, Contador, Evans, Rodriguez, Garderen and local favourites like Pinot and Rolland battling it out for GC while…See More

I have a MTB for utility cycling with town n country tyres. Slower, but handles better when loaded with shopping or books. One day I would like to try touring but busy with advocacy at the moment. My advocacy has resulted in a successful Volunteer Scholarship application to attend cycling conferences interstate. This time I would like to take my bike on the plane. So I will be looking at new front and rear racks plus panniers (then learning how to pack lightly). Getting closer to touring set-up? I would appreciate any hints from you.
Glenn, welcome to Adelaide Cyclists. I recognised the name from SATCA days. Were you still there when renamed Bicycle SA with young cyclists of The Yahoos? One of them, Matt Rawnsley recently joined AC and is preparing to cycle Paris Brest Paris again (or is it the other way round?).
You may be interested in the AC group Commuters and, if you cycle into the city, Adelaide BUG (which I coordinate). This month one can make submissions to ACC on their Draft Plan & Budget. Does it include the cycling facilities you want? More info at Adelaide BUG.
