Enjoying the Difference - Almost as much as I'd like!

It must be the time for reflection, must be caused by the weather!

I could go on about the difference that Adelaide Cyclists have made to my life this year, instead I will outline the list of events I have been fortunate to take part in through the year.

The Ridiculous Ride - A cruisey ride from Melbourne to Adelaide. My first crack at touring on a bike) and raising 10k for the McGrath Foundation with fellow AC'er Dayne Smithett (based in Sydney) and ably assisted on the road by the lovely Emma Watts

Track Night - First crack at a fixie on a vertical wall! A great workout and a truly mind-blowing introduction about what else riding bike can mean. I got to meet some great people too!

The AC 2nd birthday ride - Was part of a group of 30 riding from the city to Glenelg (which became a bigger group for the smashfest out to Outer Harbour) and got to witness a couple of newbies (and lovely ladies to boot) start their riding lives.

Took part in the Christchurch Ride -  and saw how big hearts can also get things done.

A discussion post that meant I had to follow-up my words with deeds turned into a group ride with 15 other people and a first ascent of Mount Lofty (thanks Jim, if you get to read this).

The Norton's Virgin ride showed that 'we can do eeet'! That was my first ascent of Nortons

Quickly followed by the first Lofty ascent via Nortons on the Winter Solstice Ride - I couldn't see the hills in the misty dark, but I could sure feel them! Thanks Jeremy!

Hitting the highway in the dead of night to visit and ride with the phenomenon that is the Gawler Wheelers. You guys sure know how to build an inclusive community and put together some good, safe riding.

Riding with the born-again Muddies.

All this culminating in a decision to start a ride for those who wanted to become as confident to experience this two-wheeled world as I had become. Thanks to all of the various people who had organised the rides (and the community) described above. The 'L' Rides now look like being a reasonably permanent fixture on the calendar down South.

Its been quite a year on two-wheels!

You couldn't blame a fella for looking forward to what the next year might bring, eh?

Thanks to you all for making the difference.

Cheers

Wattsy
