The third grand tour of 2014 is about to start this weekend - the Vuelta a Espana/ Tour of Spain.

It's going to be an absolute firecracker exploding all that fizzed at the Tour de France (not that it wasn't a good race).

It's time for DS to set up your fantasy teams for the race. The Adelaide Cyclists league is back, albeit without any prizes (at the moment).

Go to and log-in or create an account. Create your team using the riders offered in each discipline and then join the Adelaide Cyclists league using the league code 20133818.

Good luck!

Thirty-five teams are now entered in the AC Fantasy Tour de France . Ranking has begin. Who will be the team awarded the random draw prize.

Not entered yet? Get on it. It's quick and easy. Get your friends to sign on too (only AC members can win the prizes so get them to join too).

Details here.

Good news for the live coverage.

Yes the Dauphine stage was amazing. I was staggered that the peloton let so many GC contenders escape up the road.  I guess they laid the responsibility on Team Sky, and Sky had worries enough nursing an injured/ tired Froome to the line, let alone chasing breaks.  It was an awesome attack from Contador which bodes well for an entertaining TdF.

And pleasingly Porte seemed to improve as the Dauphine went on.

And good news for pro-cycling fans. SBS's managing director has promised that all stages of the Tour de France will be shown live into SA.

I truly hope you watched the final stage of the Dauphine last night. Absolutly incredible racing and some riders flagged their form before the Tour. I was most excited by the performance of many of the younger riders.

If you've not seen it SBS should have highlights. Stop what you're doing and watch.

Also don't forget Jack Bobridge was pretty aggressive in the TOC and ended up about 22nd on GC, hopefully a sign of things to come.

.. an of course Walkerville's Rohan Dennis came second on GC in the Tour of California this morning.

In no way is this a distraction from my team's poor showing at Velogames but in other pro-cycling news Adelaide's Robert-Jon McCarthy, son of Noel McCarthy from The Bike Station, and former AIS rider, won the opening stage of Ireland's An Post Rás overnight for team Ireland An Post Chain Reaction in a sprint finish. His career is certainly on the rise after a few other podium finishes in Belgium in the last 12 months or so.

Report and video.

Meanwhile in California Taylor Phinney wins a stage (as does Adelaide's Rohan Dennis).

The TV coverage is so poor though. There is no atmos sound and the picture breakup is constant. I used to think it was my web connection but the commentary continues unbroken.

Rogers sat around provisionally suspended for the last 6 months while the UCI dithered so you could argue he's served his time already. In fact it amounts to the same slap on the wrist Big George and Zabriskie received for their years on the juice.
