Read this morning about a proposal to restructure the Pro Tour in the wake of Lance-gate, and the biggest shock is that the UCI aren't blocking the idea.
A few key points:
The billionaire Omega Pharma Quickstep owner is in talks with the UCI and other parties to replace the Pro Tour with a new league of 18 teams and 20 races.
Teams would benefit from more stable finance with a share of TV rights and other revenue
Drug testing would be handled independently from the UCI
Quaid is in talks with the idea and seems to be cooperating so far.
The ASO has yet to endorse the idea- Grand Tours need to be on-side obviously.
UCI would retain full control of the calendar.
