Last night's AGM yielded some significant changes to the Bicycle Institute. In short we would like announce and welcome new chair Ian Radbone and extend our gratitude for the work Jeremy Miller has done in his long tenure as chair. Thankfully Jeremy is still continuing in the role as vice chair. Also elected were Brian Jenkins as secretary and Stephen Janes continues as treasurer. Other regular committee members were re-elected, with new committee member Ian Smith joining us.

The meeting heard reports from the outgoing chair about the achievements of the year, including our involvement with the Frome Street Bikeway that opened to great appreciation and large numbers of riders that morning, and the ongoing challenges of keeping cycling front and center in the public discourse on road use and transport.

Treasurer's report showed we remain in a sound position and the success of our quiz night event bolstered our funds to continue our work.

The meeting passed an important motion that membership fees be suspended and be set to free ($0), not offer Treadlie magazine to members and move to an ongoing free membership model. It was successfully argued that by offering free membership it would help us build a strong base of cyclists who will help raise issues and support our calls without the requirement for them to find the money annually and our need to manage financial membership and chase fees. You can read more about this idea here.

Finally our guest for the evening was MLC Mark Parnell (Greens) who supported our decision to remove a paid membership structure and explained some secrets of political and activist groups in finding people who share our common goal and activating them. He also outlined his plan to call on the state government to announce a new cycling strategy and his recent call for submissions on the future of cycling in SA ahead of the Velo-city Global conference starting on May 27.
