Last week we had had three undulating rides to choose from. This week 52 riders said good-bye to Spring with a choice of 4 GW Hills rides.

One group headed off on a nice and easy 42km Beginner hills ride. Another group, who were looking for more of a challenge, rode the same route in reverse ie an Intermediate hills ride.  Not long rides but most enjoyable. We got back to Café Farina’s at around 10.00am and spent the next couple of hours chatting and watching the Conquer Cancer cyclists ride past.

Concurrently two other groups had headed off on a much tougher 93km Hills ride. One group rode at a rapid pace and the other at a moderate pace. They all arrived back around lunch time. When they got home two things were clearly evident: (1) they were stuffed! and (2) they had experienced a most satisfying ride.

The riding conditions were ideal this morning and we thank all who took advantage of them to ride with Gawler Wheelers. More in-depth salacious details of today’s rides will be posted over the coming days!

NEXT WEEK: We all get back together for one big FLAT ride GW group hug!Details will be posted on AC Events and YOU are welcome to join us.

This week’s GW CYCLING TIPS for newbies is about MOTIVATION. We've all woken up on a Saturday and thought, 'I might give cycling a miss today'. "It's going to rain, it's too cold, too hot and I've been working hard all week.” Limitless Performance - The Inner Chimp is a light-hearted cycling film based on the mental struggles we go through every time we cycle.

not sure .. they had full race kit on, but were not riding Scott bikes.  They were however extremely friendly, approaching Peter Short and I and asking what we were up to -- given that most serious amateurs are total a******s, it made me think they might be part of the team.  If anyone recognises them, I'd be interested to know.

Hi Juz,

Hope that you can get the extra team member. Who else is on your team?

A reminder also that at the GW Xmas Lunch we will be running a raffle to raise funds for your JDRF charity ride. Some nice prizes ....so bring along a few extra gold coins.

Gotta go.....about to put some quail on the BBQ. Easy to to cook...choosing the wine is the hard bit.

Would have loved to do the 93km ride, no riding from me this weekend.  Sorry Guys, the GW's are a good bunch to ride and chat with. I'm having to finish my Diploma in OHS studies. :-(

At least I'll be smarter than a 5th Grader.  :-)

Hi Ray!,

1. All the best with your OHS studies.

2. Are you doing the course for your current job...or something you aspire to in the future?

1. The BBQ quail, basted with a plum marinade, was sensational

2. The wine that went with it was even better!!

Wine and cycling :-)

This afternoon, Leanne and I drove to Nuriootpa with our bikes, and rode up the path to Angaston. It was just starting to spit with rain as we stopped at the Taste Eden Valley cellar door just off the end of the path in Angaston. We tasted the list and ordered a mixed case to be picked up next weekend after Leanne goes to the Farmers Market.

The rain was a bit heavier as we continued through Angaston for afternoon tea at 40s Cafe. The rain was quite a bit heavier while we enjoyed our coffee/tea and cake, but cleared completely just before we were ready to leave for the return journey :-) At the bottom, we rode as far as Chateau Dorrien on the path towards Tanunda (too late in the day for cellar door) before returning to the car, for Leanne's longest ride so far. She says her legs are a bit sore, but she's happy with the achievement.

Hi Scott. Sounds like my kind of day!! I'm coming next time!

Loving the sites of the GRAMPIANS :)  wonder what speeds one could do down that lmao :)

Good luck with the fishing Terry, have a good break

I dropped by while doing the Conquer Cancer ride but only a few left at Farinas by the time I passed. Great weekend of riding, I surprised myself by being able to complete the ride, even gave it a burst at the last 15km and sat on 35ks! Collectively we raised $1.6 million so great effort by all! Here's a couple of pics
