SSRC Update – 03/01/2016

Happy New Year SSRC folks!

I hope you enjoyed (or, for the lucky few, are still enjoying) time with your family and friends over Christmas and New Years.

Again, all of the SSRC rides for the past week saw attendances a little lower than just prior to Christmas. The Tuesday Night Stragglers were missing a few regular faces, including its main organiser, Carl, but still managed around 13 riders. It was great to see a few more women riding with the group this time out, with Michelle, Sharon and Ilona smashing their way around the short, 27km, route.

Saturdays rides commenced from Port Noarlunga and a, thankfully, much cooler, but much windier day met the 23 or so riders. There were only 2 takers for the Green Ps this week as many folks were away for holidays, unwell or recovering from illness and wanted a lighter hit-out for this week. The decision was quickly made to fold the Green Ps ride into the P Ride and take off! Alison took the P Ride out (with ample assistance from Katie) and John took the L Riders away also. Yours truly was unable to ride, but did take a few snaps of everyone sailing down California Road.

A special thanks to John Thorp, Alison Watts and Andrew Paffett who all offered to take the ride lead role as well as Fred van Erp who was TEC for the L Ride. It’s great to see so many people pitch-in to help run these rides. You all make this group what it is.

Rides for Next Week:
Unfortunately, I’ve managed to somehow damage my lower back during the last 24 hours, so in lieu of a rapid recovery, I’m having a break from riding for at least a week. So, with that in mind…

SSRC Tuesday Night Stragglers: Returning to the popular 35km route that takes in a beach ride. http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/events/ssrc-tuesday-night-straggler...

Saturday Rides – Please note that these rides leave from the car park near Modish 5, Pimpala Road, Woodcroft.

The L Ride, follows the Stragglers route along the seafront and across the lumpy O’Sullivans Beach Road. Carl returns from his holidays to take this ride out.

The P Ride does a lap of the national park visiting Cox’s Hill Road and Blewitt Springs before returning via the Coast-to-Vines. We are looking for a ride leader for this ride. Please let me know if you are interested in doing this.

The Green Ps have a proposed ride route that includes 2 descents of Bains Road. Yes, there is some climbing involved to get there though, Chandlers and Cox’s with a visit to the beach in between. We don’t have a leader for this ride either at this stage and I will work with whoever volunteers to change the route if that is what they want.

Finally: The New Year can also be the time to reassess your cycling goals. Here’s mine (for after the back recovers):

  • To complete the Grand Slam.
  • To do a ride that is over 200km long with more than 2000vm.
  • To complete the Lake Taupo Challenge.
  • To race.

What’s yours?

Cheers, Wattsy.

Also, we received news that Pinery Fire event scheduled for next Sunday (10/01/2016) will not go ahead due to personal circumstances. It may be rescheduled for later in the year. You can still donate to the two causes earmarked as beneficiaries of the rides, Blazeaid http://blazeaid.com/donations/ and The Burns Unit of the RAH via the Research Fund of the RAH, https://secure3.everydayhero.com.au/event/rahdonate/donate .
