Heading down hill on McIntyre rd. Large steel plate covering roadwork, as this is on the down hill I was travelling at speed limit on seeing this plate all I could do was try to jump the bike unfortunately the back wheel hit the plate splitting both tyre (one month old conti GP4000) and tube, will check rim in daylight. The location is just on the down side of the junction with Nelson rd.

It could have been nasty given the speed you can do down that hill.

@ Keith, yeh lots of roadwork along Nelson road from McIntyre to Grand Junction, really is a rider beware for the next few months.

Should you wish to report any unsafe work activity which may be putting either employees or members of the public at risk of harm, please call the SafeWork SA Help Centre on 1300 365 255.

It would be interesting to see if these people can do something about it e.g. a warning sign

Yeah, there is one on the othe side as well but not much danger other than pushing you out into the traffic. Luckily  I go down the Grove Way and missed that one. You were lucky you only did the tyre and tube.

I hit a brick someone left in the bike lane on Daws Road tonight....almost went over the handle bars. One pinch flat front wheel

No warning sign? Invoice them for new tyre and tube maybe?

if the road is under the control of state govt, can also report cycling hazard to dtei via 1800 018 313 (24-hr), or email dtei.enquiriesadministrator@sa.gov.au make the email subject urgent cycling hazard.

or suburban street to the pertinent council, details in the white pages.

you could also photograph the hazard and damage to your bike, and ask the authority to compensate you. a couple of times i have had my costs reimbursed, although of course no liability is accepted.

I had a good look at it this arvo on the way home from work, waiting to ride up Nelson Rd.

That is ridiculous! It looks so dangerous. It would be even worse in the wet.

Went back this morning in daylight.

Called Dtei as suggested by Heather, spoke to Paul who will send out someone to inspect, also gave me mob for Don King, site manager who said he would inspect immediately.

Gavin Nugent at Avanti Plus Salisbury said I was the third in on Thursday with the same problem one of the other two had damaged a rim.

Thanks for highlighting this, I came down Wynn Vale Drv. today (always risky with huge potholes that are hard to see in shadow), good to know about hazards in the area.

A bitumen ramp was to be laid up to the plate today. Hopefully this was done.

Good work Keith!
