Alright enough about Copenhagen and Amsterdam. Malmonize! http://vimeo.com/62057084
It makes you wonder why Australia persists to think that painted bike lanes on the outside of parked cars is sufficient. Not only is it insufficient it is also wrong and outright dangerous.
Wow! Normally I dont visit threads strarted with a blind link to something but I'm glad I clicked yours. A couple of times during the video i was thinking Malmo could not get better, but it did, over and over again.
Adelaide has got a long long way to go even come close.
yes things like tunnels for cyclists and pedestrians almost bring tears to the eyes considering we can't even do it for cars here (who are kings or the road and where most of the money goes)...
My key take away though is that Malmo never painted bike lanes on the outside of parked cars in the initial stages of implementing bicycle infrastructure. I certainly have never seen it in Denmark when I grew up in the 80'es when the inception of the cycle revolution started. Sure there are tons or roads and streets where cycling takes place on the outside (no marked lanes) but they are rarely thoroughfares (for bikes or cars) and hence considered low risk. Which reminds me that a car drivers are test to look over the shoulder for bicyclist when opening the door to exit the car - which happen at least once in a driving test. Fail to do so - fail to get a license.
Amazing! I want to live there!
