8 years and still going strong.
Today’s ride was a day to celebrate the Gawler Wheelers and how it has grown.
Originally established by Frank and Wilson, it has grown to be one of the largest social cycling groups in SA. The success of the group can be put down to the work of Frank and Wilson, who put in place the elements that has kept the group in good stead. The last eight years has seen many highlights, which has been great.
There has also been some sad times, which are not forgotten, and make up the group’s shared history and shapes the way the group operates.
The ride today took in the original GW ride, the SOB. It included a loop around Edinburgh, for a 62k ride with 181 m of climbing . 46 riders up for a spin
It was more or less a trouble-free ride, with little or no wind and the temperature being just right, although there were two flats, which were quickly repaired and back rolling again.
Following is how the day rolled out.
Through the centre of Gawler.
Turning off the Two Wells road and setting up to turn on to the SOB.
Along the SOB
The regroup at the end of the SOB, the ‘half way’ point before the loop back to Gawler.
A special thanks to Ash for the TEC duties today, he did a great job supporting everyone. Here he is with Sue.
Back at the Exchange Hotel, Linda with many of ladies who rode, and enjoying a drink. Thanks to Linda for all her work in admin of the group and today, for making and decorating the cake. Thanks also to Hotel who are very supportive of the group, including providing weekly recognition awards in the form of bottles of wine, plus making us feel very welcome.
Craig and Paula cutting the cake.
Cheers to Kate, for organising the TEC roster.
Simon, who does a great job each week posting the different rides.
Finally, I’m very happy to be part of the organising group and along with Dave, it is great to see the group grow and prosper.
So another great day out with the Wheelers, and I hope for many more.
Until next week
