I’m part of the Cancer Council’s Ride for a Reason Lead out Team for this summer’s Tour down Under, riding with Patrick Jonker and some other great ambassadors.
Each year thousands of cyclists ride in the Challenge Tour and of those about 600 ‘Ride for a reason’, raising funds for Cancer Council SA. Amongst this collective, a core of cyclists have been pulled together to form what is called the Lead Out Team.
The Lead Out Team is comprised of riders who are Cancer Council Ambassadors uniting together to drive Cancer Council’s fundraising efforts and to show leadership in the community.
The team is again be coached by Olympian, Tour de France rider and Tour Down Under winner, Pat Jonker.
If you look closely at the posters installed at the top of the bollards and also nearing Norton Summit, I'm the gawky guy standing next to Pat in the back row.
As part of my involvement with the Lead Out Team, I’ve committed to raising money for the Cancer Council and would appreciate your support.
So far, I’ve raised just over 80% of my $5,000 target, which I am staggered by and very heartened, but am looking for your support to close the gap.
With one in two Australians diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, the need to find better ways to detect and treat cancer is real.
