Not to mention "look 3000 cyclists with number plates/registrations, it can be done" oh dear!
I suspect the orientation/placement of the numbers is so the timing chip is recognized and works, so if you don't care about having your time up the freeway or willunga recorded by the ride, just pop the number on your back instead.
that's what I plan to do. If I want to time myself I'll base it with my Garmin.
or strava app (on my phone)
The fluro green wristband is your meal ticket :-)
On the website it still says this
All riders will be issued with a Ride Number/Bib that contains a timing device. This MUST be attached to the BACK of your ride jersey/shirt. It may not function correctly if it is attached to the front of your shirt or on any part your bike. Please bear this in mind if you want your time to be recorded.
Not sure where you got that from Graham...here's what's on the site at the moment
All riders will be issued with a Ride Number/Bib that contains a timing device. This MUST be attached to the HANDLEBARS of your bike. It may not function correctly if it is attached to the front or back of your jersey or on any other part your bike. Please bear this in mind if you want your time to be recorded.
All of that being said I'll have mine on the back of my jersey, if the timing stuffs up I suppose I'll have to rely on my Garmin.
They have updated it today as I copied it from earlier today.
a feasibility study into numberplates & licensing of bicycles? RF ID tracking has lots of applications/uses :-)
+ 1 Roger. We will both take flak for saying so....
i will be pinning mine to the back of my jersey. i couldnt care less about getting my name in the paper. i would prefer to not have a time registered than have it flapping around for 100kms
