AC sponsor STAR CYCLES is giving away two gift vouchers to help us celebrate the start of Spring. Every comment posted on this ride report goes into the draw, with the winning entries drawn after next weeks GW rides.

45 riders joined us today for the first GW ride in Spring. We rode a 60km FLAT route and with the perfect conditions the pace can only be described as “sizzling” for the whole route. There were many average speed PBs, and word has it that some riders averaged over 35kph for the 60km ride! They will all tell you more over the coming days.

A special welcome to today’s GW newbies….Adam, Mark and Seb. Welcome to you all and trust that you enjoyed your first Gawler Wheelers experience. It was also pleasing to welcome back a few GW members who had not been out for a while eg Elaine, Samantha and Barry.

NEXT WEEK: We will be holding two concurrent UNDULATING rides through the beautiful Barossa Valley. Details will be posted on AC Events. Take your pick from two sensational 60km or 80km Gawler Wheelers rides!!

Following on from last week, we continue with our SAFETY TIPS…especially for the benefit of the new riders participating in their first group rides.

“Cycling Tips with Sharron” - Group Riding Safety

Finally, there was some talk this morning around the best way to increase average speed. One GW member said that the best way to increase your riding speed by 30% is to buy one of these bikes:

"VARIBIKE"

It was great to be back today, I've missed the rides but not as much as I enjoyed my nice warm bed the past couple of COLD months! It was a cold start but soon warmed up to a beautiful morning. Amazingly I achieved my best ever average speed today, the rest must have done me good :-) Gotta keep training, the Ride To Conquer Cancer is not too far away.

Elaine, you like your bed too much!!! We will need to talk to you about that.

Well done on your PB!

.

Just curious, how many U16's joined in today?

Just Barry!  (Young at heart!)

Had an awesome ride today, top spring weather even though the fingers and toes were frozen when I got to the start, oh yeah and my new mate the magpie that swoops me at the start of Gawler River road every week now when I set off from home.
Although it was flat, catching the fast train up front really made up for it and it was a great buzz. Even with riding in from home and back (35km solo) my average still finished up with 32kmh over an 80km ride so pretty chuffed with that.
Good to see the newbies joining and coming out with the nice weather.
Great group riding all

Kev, great riding and a wonderful average over 80km!

PS...I am going for a ride down Gawler River road in about an hour....will look out for that magpie!

.

Yes very good average Kevin over that distance.....

What a top day out, the spring conditions made for a quick ride by all. Riding to and home from Gawler my averages were slower than the group ride, on the way out only 26 but all up for the day an average of 29.7 for 108km so I'm guessing the actual group ride would have been over 30 and you've got to be happy with that. Great to see young Barry out again, even though he hasn't been with GW he has been putting in some impressive distances, look forward to seeing more of him. Good luck and best wishes to Chris riding to Vic next week for Amy's Grand Fondo from Lorne. Looking forward to next week.

Fantastic day great weather and a great bunch to ride with the pace was exhilarating really got my personal  average up rode 31.5 so I am over the moon thanks to all the rides that rode with me to keep me moving at that pace manage to sit in the front group for awhile but lost me on the first small rise. more practice required. But all in all what a great turn out hope to see more of it looking forward to next weeks longer ride.
