Last week I took the plunge and used the early bird entry to enter the full 127 km 2013 TDU BUPA Challenge along with David and several other SSRC riders. We have decided to enter as team SSRC which will add SSRC printed on our BUPA challenge jerseys.
As a rule I do not collect donations for charities as I prefer to donate to ones I select personally. Having said that the Cancer Council contacted me today to ask if I would "Ride For a Reason" on the TDU BUPA Challenge. As this is an admirable charity, as so many are, its hard to deny their motives or validity. They have made an extra effort to make this easy. They have a web page setup where people can donate making donations far more direct. Although I am not going to go out and ask for money I will provide a link for others, if they feel so disposed, to donate to this admirable organisation.
Please visit here and donate if you feel a need to support the Canc...
This is a disease that will touch you through someone you know or, heaven forbid, your own body. It is indeed a worthy cause. Any donations will be put to good use! You can make a difference!
Have done the same thing the last few years, and I agree Cancer is a terrible diease, however when I found out that only approx. 30% of the money raised for the Cancer Council actually goes to cancer research and the rest covers "costs" of the charity, next year I will be raising money for a different cause :)

Comment by Derek Hasel on August 1, 2012 at 11:06 Kara T, in fact only about 18% of monies raised by Cancer Council of SA goes towards Cancer Research. As you have stated the rest goes into Administrative costs. As an ex Executive member of Cancer VoicesSA these facts are correct, better to ride the "Ride Like Crazy" where ALL the funds raised are split 50/50 with the Kids Hospital at Nth Adelaide or Cancer Research at Flinders Medical Centre (thru Flinders Medical Centre Foundation).
