Tony Pilkington's column in the Sunday Mail

On page 2 of the Sunday Mail (14 Nov) Tony Pilkington was complaining about cyclists going up and down Greenhill Rd to Mt Lofty - and how some poor unfortunate motorist might one day hit one or more of them.

The tone of the piece was disparaging and prejudiced. He sniggered about all these "would-be Lance Armstrongs". He gave the distinct impression cyclists were usurpers on the roads, getting in the way of four-wheel-drives powering into the Hills.

When are these commentators going to wake up to the reality that cyclists have as much right to be on the road as anyone else?

Old petrol-head attitudes die hard in this new age, carbon reduction, keep fit world.

I like the thinking behind that, Rob. Size and weight limit on Greenhill Rd. Nothing over 2 wheels?

Why would any of us take any notice of what that drunken nobody has to say. He is after all a Murdoch journalist. I'm surprised that he didn't suggest shooting cyclists. Most Right Wingers do !

How many words did he manage to write before using the term "lycra-clad"?

I've heard Peter Goers and 'Macca' (on Australia all over) make throw-away disparaging remarks about cyclists, or the instalment of cycling lanes. We'll know we're getting somewhere when Andrew Bolt points his poison pen in our direction.
