At the start of this year I set a couple of cycling goals, the first was to ride all five Grand Slams which I did, well almost. I missed a turn in GS4 and shortened the route be about 5kms and fell and wrote off the bike on GS4 and missed the last 10kms or so. Close enough for me to tick off that particular goal.

The other goal was to ride 6666kms for the calendar year which I passed this morning. I needed to ride 78 kms today and with the CVSA ride plus the ride there and back I rode 94kms. It was a good ride this morning in very windy conditions riding up Montecute with Gillian who was feeling the strain of some big rides this week, I was happy to ride with her up the hill but I must have upset her because as soon as we hit Norton Summit she was gone like Vincenzo Nibali at La Giro whilst I descended like Miss Daisy.

The ride back from Taylors Blend with Baron was pretty quick with  a tailwind along Cross Rd before turning into a headwind on Marion and sucking Baron's wheel (sorry mate couldn't get past to take a turn) as I passed the 6666 mark. The goal completed I headed to see Jim Woods and had a cold beer and a couple of sausage rolls for lunch before heading slowly up the Veloway into yet more strong wind.

So with the target passed I can stick the bike in the shed and veg  out on the couch until January.

Well maybe not because I've just looked on bike journal where I logged all my rides and I've done 96 rides for 6682 kms, so I may as well make it a 100 rides for the year.

I find it hard to believe that you'd stop cycling just because 'computer says no'! I like Pete's idea, go for 7000!

well done.

My computer said "SLEEP" earlier this year. It took me many months to pluck up the courage to disobey it .

The bike's in the shed but I can hear it asking to be let out for a ride tomorrow night with my mate Paul. Definitely aiming for 7K now.
