Spending the week at Goolwa with the family. Brought my bike with me because I can't afford to miss a week of riding as I've got the Ride Like Crazy and Bupa challenge coming up. I wasn't too keen to ride on busy roads but thought I'd stick to back streets. While checking out the visitors info I found the Encounter Bikeway pamphlet. You beauty!
I thought I'd tackle the whole length today which is about a 55km round trip from goolwa to the Bluff and back. The path is a combination of shared bike / pedestrian paths and quiet coastal roads. The views are breathe taking to say the least, as you get so close to the water that you can taste it on your lips. The condition of the path is very good but some parts are a bit rough. I wouldn't tackle it with my carbon wheels unless I was riding at a leisurely pace which for me is impossible, I'm in a hurry to get every where!
It's not a very difficult ride as it's flat for most parts but you do encounter the odd hill or two. The other factor is the wind! It was a bit breezy this morning which made the return trip harder but I can imagine that with a stiff breeze you'd have to work fairly hard.
So if your down this way give it a go, good for the whole family as there are different sections to try.
