Hi all,

Went to the docs on Monday & I'm in the wheelchair for another 6 weeks, which makes it 3 months in total. Started physio this week and will start hydrotherapy in 2 weeks.
SAPOL contacted me to ask about my injuries (odd, as I thought they'd get report from the QEH) The driver is going to court to face charges (driving without due care) and will in all likelihood just get a fine. But you know what, he will be more careful from now on, most likely all his friends and family will look out for cyclists because of it. So if me getting hit means other cyclists don't I'm ok

Hi Lisa,

Sorry to hear you still have a lot more chair time but glad to see you have found a new way to think about this horrible thing that has happened to you. Your attitude is so positive, I'm sure it will serve you well in the months and years to come. Best of luck with it all and hang on in there. You are an inspiration!

Your attitude is inspirational Lisa, six weeks will go by in no time and the hydrotherapy will be a nice change for you too!

Eventually the insurance council and government might get the message as more and more drivers are taken to task....even if it only means a fine and loss of demerit points!

If the driver is convicted it should give you a clear avenue through a civil action if you should choose that option.

Cheers guys. Having such a great support network makes being positive easy.
I now have no ill feelings towards the driver. They have been so cooperative & have been in touch numerous times to check up on my recovery.
I am now in the mindset that harsher penalties for guilty drivers is not the solution. The powers that be need to focus more on education with learner drivers & p platers. If we instill the importance of sharing the road with other road users, the need for harsher penalties won't be needed.
Unfortunately when humans are involved the element of "human error" will exist and there in lays the problem.
And cyclists will always be vunerable.

Lisa, sad to hear the healing is so slow...hope you are coping with the news about the extended time in the chair. Please keep us all updated with how you are progressing.

Lisa, correct about not needing them locked up! More education and a realisation we are very vulnerable to their lack of attention!

A vehicle vs vehicle collision is one thing, but when we get knocked off, it's highly likely we will be badly and potentially permanently injured due to their lack of focus.....if not killed!

Hi Lisa

I was pretty amazed at the injuries from the prang, but amazed too by your positive attitude.

Keep it up! (let me know if you don't want your photo on the site)

Hi Lisa sorry to hear that you will spend more time in the w chair, but your positive outlook is fantastic... with an attitude like that you will back on the bike in no time at all... Keep us updated :-)

Hi Lisa, We are all right behind you. I look forward to the day when the 2 wheels under you will be on a road bike. I'm glad you are no holding ill feelings towards the driver who hit you, "hatred is a poison you intend for the other person but take yourself". This means it will only hurt you, slow down your recovery and make you bitter.

In the meantime coma along for coffee at the end of some rides. We'd all love to see you Sweetie.

We are all very proud of you!!!!!

Very glad to see you are still keeping positive Lisa. I was hoping that you would let us know how you and Aaron were going. Every day is a day closer to recovery. Cheers, Wattsy
