Cycled up Gorge Rd again today and over Checkers Hill - cracked 78.0Km/hr down the eastern flank!
Fantastic feeling as I pedaled hard and then went into a tuck.

Guess next time I'll have to look at an 80+ descent!

Amazing that the pros can crack 100+ - I remember last year on tv the chase motorbike was doing 111Km/hr following - incredible!

We then came back down Gorge Rd but detoured up Corkscrew Rd to enjoy the slick smooth road surface that is Montacute Rd.

Great ride on a perfect weather day - gotta luv spring :-)

Last time I went up Norton Summit with CVSA I rounded a corner when suddenly a koala apeared from the roadside and ambled across the road. Imagine if you were doing 60 plus downhill when that happened.

Hmm, this lad's got some bear faced cheek even though he clearly isn't bare faced.

Baron, I am sure that SAPOL would ping cyclists for exceeding the speed limit, especially if doing 20 km/h over the limit and thus obvious. Not realising or a broken speedo does not excuse drivers. Remember that infringements on a bicycle count towards demerit points on your diver's licence.

Cyclists are recounting travelling at relatively high speed. Do you do this only your own, or would you dare to go this fast with other cyclists around you (like experienced professional cyclists)?

Heather, I'd put safety 1st always and make sure I have 'escape' options that didn't involve other riders/road users.. anyway, thats not the issue. How can we be held accountable to a law when that same law doesn't require us to carry a measuring device to see if we are complying - if that makes sense?

Yes, excessive speed on a push-bike will be penalized and cause loss of demerit points on one's drivers license. Actually had a copper aim his radar at me a while back when cruising along Military Rd West Bch in a 60Km/hr zone, I was doing a massive 35 on my speedo and made an act of going fast which got a good laugh from the cop!

As to drop bears, was close to being taken out by a magpie the other day, once again at a cruise speed of 30~40Km/hr. The magpie was on the road and slow to move as I approached, it crossed my line walking to avoid me and only took to wing as my wheel came within cm of it. I was of course taking evasive manouvers at that point. I had to comment to my cycling buddy "that was close!"

Checked with a lawyer mate today - speed restrictions apply to MOTORIZED vehicles only. Pushbikes are exempted from any speed limits.
