It would be difficult to pinpoint any single motivator, it is more a group of ideas that would be more acurate. There is the knowledge that it will take at least 8 hours of actual riding time requiring stamina, determination and a tough butt! The knowledge that if you can do this it expands your horizon on what else you can do and what places you can visit on your bike.
In these winter months its difficult to get a lot of riding in especially if you don't like to ride in the rain as I sure don't. It then makes sense that taking a long ride on a fine day satisfies the desire to ride for longer than a short ride. So, winter is an ideal time to make long rides if you can coordinate your available time with the good days for riding.
They are general motivators but I had some personal ones too, I had in my mind that I one day would like to ride to a Gawler Wheelers Saturday morning group ride and ride home again afterwards. I had ridden home from Nuriootpa before but wanted to know if I could ride there for a visit and ride home as well. All of these things collectively helped me decide to make this ride.
