Rode from Modbury to Pt Noarlunga to meet with the Southern riders today. Roger joined me at Darlington and we headed up the Velloway. Made good time and hung around for a while waiting for the bunch, hung around a bit longer until the party was over.
Then Roger and I were guided by Pat along with Baron toward Hallet Cove where we parted company. Some of those suburban streets are real buggers and quite steep and my first warm hot ride for the season was beginning to take it's toll. Despite drinking plenty of fluids I needed more hydration and we stopped at the deli by Hallet Cove station. Sunk an energy drink and bought a 1.5lt bottle of chilled water. Yuck discovered after first swig that it was that Italian Style sparkling. Horrible. From there we continued to Glenelg, the head winds and heat were bad enough but then we realised that the irritating foreign objects that we were collecting weren't sand particles but minute bugs.
Spotted BJ at Somerton Bowling club and stopped for a chat, he does look very spiffy in his bowling kit and the two sweaty cyclists definately stood out amongst the crowd. Onward we went through Glenelg and onto the bike path (Reece Jennings I think) that runs along side the airport. Roger took the lead as this is his backyard and he showed me a really nice sneaky suburbian route through Mile End which comes out directly opposite Hindley Street on West Terrace.
From there I rode to Rundle Mall, walked down the Mall and stopped at a kiosk for a large fresh fruit crush, yummy. Onto Super Elliot where I bought myself a usefull bag that fits on the top bar for those energy goodies that usually get lost in the back pocket.
Then it's Rundle Street to Fullarton Road, cross Payneham and take the back streets through St Peters to Walkerville. Final stop at the Walkerville IGA, more hydration and home through Vale Park, Windsor Gardens, Linear Park to Sudholz Road up Lyons Road then Nth East Rd and home.
It was a nice day but I am going to be drinking heaps tonight and in the morning in readines for Amy's and hopefully will remember this day when we get the next warm one. Tomorrow is supposed to a bit cooler but those southern breezes can be fairly warm and tiring so take care boys and girls, plenty of watery non alcoholic fluids tonight and tomorrow.
Comment by Patrick O'Kane on November 5, 2011 at 17:28 Those minute bugs are 90% water Clive, and not that fizzy foreign stuff either,
Good advice about drinking lots of water tonight and tomorrow morning.

Ok now I know why you were a big sore at Amy's Ride! Great effort Clive, the heat is a real killer, like you, I have to drink a lot.
