Last February marked the opening of Home Grain Bakery in McLaren Flat and, as a joke, I made a suggestion that a ride with three bakery stops take place, with the Aldinga Home Grain Bakery as the start and finish and their new Home Grain Bakery at McLaren Flat as the mid-point. A short, but delicious, 35km ride. Surprisingly people said yes! Not only yes but when! So about a dozen people took part in the first ever Pie Ride on Sunday March the 2nd. It turned out to be an enjoyable pootle with around the Southern Vales with some great people. The ride also raised $150 for MIFSA (The Mental Illness Fellowship of South Australia) a cause close to my heart.
Then it was over.
Then people asked "When are we doing this again?"
It was clear that there was some demand for a ride that involved three visits to bakeries!
So with help and guidance from fellow ACers Quentin and Brett I am pleased to say that the first
Winter Pie Ride will start from Aldinga on the morning of the 20th of July.
It'll be cold, it may be wet, there will be hot pies and coffee available to buy. $5 gets you registered to ride (pay on the day).
If you don't want to eat you can pay an additional 'fine', which, like the registration fee, goes directly to MIFSA.
There will be little giveaways on the day and limited on road support can be provided.
Click the link above for details and if you want to come respond to the event.
If you know anyone who has suffered from poor mental health / mental illness and you ride anything from a unicycle to a penny-farthing and you dont mind superb bakeries, this ride is for you!!
If you want to know more, drop me a message on my AC account and I'll get back to you.
If you can't make it but would like to donate to MIFSA's 'Sharing the Journey' appeal, you can find the donation page at http://www.givenow.com.au/mifsa
Cheers, Andrew (Wattsy) Watts
PS - I'll leave you with an example of Home Grain's handy work!!
