For all those interested, I did complete the 105km Fitz's Challenge ride on Sunday (+10km each way before and after). It was one of the hardest things I have ever done. The outward leg was not too bad with lots of fun (and fast) down-hill sections where I reached speeds of around 80km/h+. The homeward leg was a really hard slog. Most of the last 30km were uphill and all of it was into a strong head wind.
On top of the physical issues, there were hundreds of motorcycles on the road (given the weather that's not surprising), many cars and 4x4's and our fair share of idiots (on two and four wheels, with and without motors). We weren't bothered by the Police though. Didn't see one officer all day, despite all cyclists having to have their helmets checked by Ride Staff (a condition imposed by the AFP).
I came home exhausted.
