Adelaide Cyclists

This came up on my facebook. I've heard a bit about this research, so it'll be interesting to see the outcomes.

They want drivers and cyclists, so spread the word y'all! (let me know if the link doesn't work - I'm technologically challenged today...:)

Done. Very interesting survey.

No worries - I might email the contact person on the survey and see why it hates me! Thanks anyway :)

Checked that box at the beginning of the survey, as well as the other confirmation stuff - but for some reason half way through the survey it kicks me back to the start (note the Page 1 showing on the final screen).

Completed this survey last night - really interesting. The work that Marilyn Johnson has been doing at Monash on the interaction and perception that cyclists and motorists have is really engaging. She presented some finding of this at the Australian Cycling Conference in both 2009 and 2010. I am looking forward to when the studies are finished and the conclusions to come out of it!

How'd you go with it in the end Mark? If you're still having problems, perhaps send an email and let them know. It may have just been a busy time in server town.

Jim - I think that's legal. I know some states allow "filtering" (where vehicles are stationary) but not "splitting" (passing while traffic is moving). I think you're covered. Don't rely on my advice though!

Is anyone else having problems with this crashing out before the end of the survey? Tried to complete it a couple of times and it keeps sending me back to the start after the screen asking about my riding habits. I wanna be heard!

Mark, once again, you move up a notch in my book of legend status. All I got to do is get you out in a hot pink Ms Piggy jersey and you'll be become an untouchable!! Or you could just circulate the survey around the offices of your fine colleagues :)

I can't really find any definitive answer on lane splitting. The safe cycling brochure on Transport SA's website says it's legal to pass moving and stationary vehicles on the left, except when indicating to turn left. Jim, I think you'll have to call this one depending on the circumstances. Just be safe!

Done!
I hadn't heard of the bike boxes term before, and thought at first they were referring to where we lock our bikes up! Hmm, spot the numty! Got it now tho!
I go the safe option too, and will generally wait behind turning traffic, pretty much as I would in my car, unless of course there is a clearly marked bike lane for me. I don't see the point in crowding to the front of the intersection.

excellent question - I got NO idea! I think Alex told me that motorcycles can do it. Maybe he told me that they can roll to the front of an intersection.

I'm gonna go look it up. Hopefully someone can come up with the answer in the meantime.

Isn't it funny? I always thought I rode legally, but right now I don't know what behaviours constitute legal!
