Adelaide Cyclists news - Japan, mud, lights off and new musettes

Hello,

Wow, it's one of those days in Adelaide - wet & windy but did it stop you riding?

 

There are a few community cycling events coming up that are worth putting in your diaries.

 Sakura (cherry blossom) Ride for Japan

Saturday April 9 a ride in two groups (hills and flats) to raise some charity money for the survivors of the Japanese tsunami and acknowledge their plight. All welcome to ride from 8.30am from the Himeji Gardens on South Terrace and meet back there at the end of the ride.

Also as a way of helping a ride for our sister city of Christchurch on Sunday April 17 from Lights Vision on Montefiore Hill to Glenelg and beyond and funds raised go to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.


Adelaide Cyclists 2nd Birthday events

The details for the birthday get together have been worked out. A ride along the beach on Sunday April 3 leaving Glenelg at 8am and a get together for a beer at the Wheatsheaf from 4pm. See you at one or other or both get togethers. All the details are here.

 


It's the weather to get muddy.. CX comes to Adelaide

Port Adelaide CC is hosting Adelaide's first Cycle Cross races this winter kicking off on April 22. Training and skills building is already happening. This Thursday is a women only session. More here...

All are welcome and you don't need a CX bike!

 


Torrens Linear Park night ride

This Saturday 26 March is Earth Hour and for something different turn on your bikes lights and ride the linear park path with a group of friends for fun. 7.45pm Meeting under Port Rd. More here...

 


Introducing the Adelaide Cyclists Musette (and caps still available)

From requests from you Rocket Fuel Style has designed a musette bag for Adelaide Cyclists. Great for when you want to ride your roadie but need to pick up some milk on the way home. But unlike the pros you don't have to throw yours away after a feed station pick-up.

The Adelaide Cyclists caps are also still available if anyone wants one.

Square to Square are now on the road from Melbourne to Adelaide.

The group of members who are riding from Fed. Sq, Melb to Vic. Sq, Adelaide are off and are now on the Great Ocean Rd. They are posting updates to Twitter which you can follow on Adelaide Cyclists main page and Steve Blight is blogging update with some nice pics here. They are doing it for a great cause, the Flinders Medical Centre's, 'Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer inc the LIVESTRONG Cancer Research Centre, so don't hesitate to donate as well.

Vale Michael Warner

Last week Adelaide Cyclists lost a friend. Michael was a long time member and big contributor to the community. He was knowledgeable and passionate about cycling. There was a wonderful outpouring of sympathy from members to this sad loss. Read his memoriam post here.

Yep - sure did ride today. Jumped on the bike early into work this afternoon as the weather radar showed a nice break in the rain and got into town mostly dry - great!

Coming home I beat it until the final 2Km - that was okay, into the shower and I was happy chappy.

 

Had to ride really - it was that or the bus - easy choice!
