Hello,
I think last weekend was, not that I am a long range meteorologist, probably the last hot one of the season. Arm and leg warmers and gilets are being pulled out and some of you might be fair weather cyclists and your season is coming to the end whereas others, like me, are getting ready to, and embrace, the cold -- Belgium up 2011! Are you going to keep commuting by bike this winter?
Many asked and it's on again. Adelaide Cyclists hit the track #2 is on this Friday night at the Superdrome from 8.30pm. It's a session just for us. If you've never been on the track it's a great opportunity to come and have a go amongst friends. Read more or RSVP...
Group Rides a Plenty
The Coast to Coast was not you last chance for a group ride there are heaps posted on the events pages from this weekend's Willunga Hill ride, the Bike Belair for Bonga fund-raiser for an Ethiopian hospital, The Gawler Wheelers inaugural ride and the World Naked Bike Ride's Adelaide stage all on Saturday. On Sunday is Up the NEXY to checkout the new bikeway, and Secret to Secret (which really means to a bakery somewhere around Meadows) on the holiday Monday organised by Mark Matthew so that should be a laugh. Then there's even more....
Sunday April 3 there will be a group ride and a social ride/ get together for Adelaide Cyclists 2nd birthday so keep an eye out for more when they are announced.
So Much to Talk About
It's been great reading some of the discussions from the last few weeks. The pre and post Coast to Coast discussion was a great snapshot of everyone's feelings about the ride. There was a lot of love in the room! A lot of community support and good will were passed onto Jim Woods after his MCCT crash. It was a post started by Michael Warner who himself has been receiving best wishes today after his collision with a kangaroo last week while descending the old freeway. All the best for a speedy recovery to both of you.
DahonDude's blog about his preparation for his Victorian Three Peaks challenge this weekend has been excellent reading -- a window into the mind of a true grimpeur. Follow his Twitter feed on the site this Sunday as he rides 230km with 5000m of ascent.
The King St bridge at Glenelg's temporary closure for works is causing some grief but advice is at hand on how to re-route your ride.
What are the benefits of a bicycle?
Got something to say start a discussion (as the tally stands the next post will be the 1500th) or start a blog about a subject or challenge you are undertaking or just share a slice of your life.
Charity begins at home
Square to Square is a ride by a group of Adelaide Cyclists members from Fed. Sq. Melbourne to Victoria Sq Adelaide to raise money for the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer Incorporating the Livestrong Cancer Research Centre. Looking forward to the photos and reports when you get back.
More things to win!
As I write this Adelaide Cyclists has just ticked over 1300 members (welcome Rachel!) But more are always welcome so this month every new member goes into the draw to win a Basil Shopper XL pannier bag thanks to Gazelle Bicycles Australia. So tell your cycling friends that now is a better time than ever to join a Adelaide's biggest community of cyclists of all kinds. More cyclists means more awareness of cycling and that can only be a good thing. Just click here to invite your friends or share this site on Facebook or Twitter. You can even use your Facebook, Twitter, Gmail or Yahoo accounts to sign in.
.. and speaking of winners January's photo of the month winner, as voted by you, was Don Brice's 'At the Eagle'
Also, watch out for a new podcast out this week.
Until next time happy cycling!
Angus
