I discovered a couple of weeks ago that The Elizabeth Star Cyclists ride on Monday mornings as well as Wednesdays and they don't start until 9.30, given that on alternate weeks I work 7 days and feel fairly buggered on Sunday night this seemed an ideal group for me on my fortnightly Mondays off.
Having checked Google maps and Cycle Instead I plotted my route from home to Star Cycles. Unfortunately that was more than a week ago and a photocopy of the relevent street directory would have been a big help. After crossing railway lines several times and heading in the correct general direction but not seeing the names of the roads I wanted to be on I managed to get quite close to Star Cycles but not close enough and I missed the group start. From there I headed in the general direction of Coventry Road, Gawler and Willaston.
Bypassed Gawler centre via some mystery un marked but really nice trails and rejoined the Main North Road but still not knowing where the coffee shop is. Fortunately as I was riding past a side street I noticed 2 cyclists coming down the road and a quick U Turn was rewarded with catching up with the main galaxy of stars (they are not a mere group).
After a long coffee break followed by a surprise tube change we headed back toward Elizabeth via a far simpler direct route than I had taken on the outward journey, though I'm sure I would be tested to find the route to Coventry Road.
A nice cruisy and speedy ride to Star Cycles. What an Aladdins cave of bikes, it's huge and probably the largest in SA, well worth a visit. After spending far too long there drooling over the bike porn it was time to head for Main Nth Rd, Golden Way, Bridge Rd, McIntyre and home.
The Star Galaxy consisted of 9 cyclists plus me this morning all, with the exception of me, are retired. It's a pleasent ride though I understand that on some weeks the group splits into a fast and slower group.
Having plotted a new route from home I shall return
Oh and I really need to get some more hill climbing in, McIntyre was painfull.
