I'm about to hit a milestone. When I go for a ride tomorrow, I'm going to hit 10,000m climbed since the start of December last year. This will be in just under 600km, and around 26 hours on the bike. My average speed has increased from around 22k's an hour, to about 25/26.

I know some of you guys ride a huge amount more than that, and probably do 600km in about three weeks, but I'm still pretty happy with myself.

This summer has been the first time I've taken my cycling seriously, after commuting to and from uni for the last couple of years on a fixie, I bought a second-hand aluminium road bike, and took to the hills.

I started recording my rides on bikemap in december,  (I don't have any sort of bike computer, or strava or anything) and now here I am.

How much have you been riding this summer?

good work, I recently cracked 1,000kms and 10,000metres of climbing in January alone - its good goal to achieve

Congrats Sam, I managed to tick off the same numbers as Rob in January & was pretty chuffed when the numbers rolled over.

Careful though, once it gets under your skin it's a damn hard habit to kick (like we'd want to)!!!

Don't get bummed by  the ridiculously large number of Km's people say they do per week. They are all single, independently wealthy philanthropists who have to much time on their hands.....Or thats what I believe anyway.

Consistency and quality is the key!

Heheh Darren, single ( no I am married father of two young lads, currently part time SAHD & casual teacher ), wealthy ( nope I am broke ) too much time ( its called effective time management and a wife that's very patience  )

Nice Stats Guys.
I have not broke the 1000km / month barrier yet, although I got close in Jan ( 934-km ), although I am on track this month. Fingers crossed...

Congrats on your milestone, I agree with Darren above- consistancy and quality are the key.

My daily commute is a thrill ride from Crafers to Flinders street in the morning and the climb home in the afternoon, it works out to 40km's a day with a reasonable climb as well. I have an understanding wife who lets me go riding on Sundays- She is out on Saturdays so all good. Keep up the good work and dont forget to enjoy the scenery along the way.
