At the moment my climbing skills are very lack lustre. I find I am grinding in the granny gear on a 5-7% grade hill. Speed is somewhere in the vicinity of 9-12km max depending on how Im feeling and gradient. Im currently running standard cranks (54/39) and a 12/28 cassette with 1850g DT Swiss wheels. My cadence on a climb is about 65 average which I have read and been told by others is too slow and I should be sitting on 80 on hills as it will be easier on the legs. I find…Continue
Been a while since I posted a blog.
Of late, I have been enjoying my riding a lot more. I've been mixing it up between getting out with the SSRC guys, riding with my regular buddies Andrew, Colin and Andre. I've been doing a mix of hills, fast flats and just pootling in general. I find mixing it up for me adds variety. I don't want riding to become a chore like I 'must' go out or I will lose what I have gained mentality.
I often remind myself of the reason why I ride. Initially…Continue
I got a mate who is about 6ft 4 and about 90-100kg who wants to get a FBR or Hybrid bike. Second hand preferably.
Budget is $500-700max. Wants it for flat road cruising with the kids for an hour or 2. Needs to be clean and in good working condition.
He is only a newbie when it comes to cycling so I said I will try and help him out.
If you have one for sale or know of one for sale that would suit his size, please me know asap.

Yesterday myself, Andrew F, Paul & Nerilee C joined me to do the Clarendon to Mclaren Vale ride via Blewitt Springs.
It was my first time up Bains and boy it felt tough. Had to stop twice for a breather up Bains, but got up it and thoroughly enjoyed my time in the hills. I also missed the Magpie there thankfully. He gave me a squark but left me alone.
The bike handled the hills well. On the down hill runs, I was able to get up to 70kph. Which is fast for me.
On the weekend I bought some soapy stuff for when I wash my cars on the weekend. A mate of mine works at Autobarn and recommended me to try the Bowden's Auto Body Wash Gel in a bucket of warm water with a micro fiber sponge. I was skeptical but since it was a mate who recommended me this product I thought I'd give it a go.
In a bucket of warm/hot water, I added a cap full and let the bucket sud up as per normal. Presoaked the car with water and stuck the sponge in not expecting…Continue
Went on Wiggle last night and saw that they have dropped their prices on their DHB bibs so I splurged out and bought the Roubaix padded bib longs at $35 each. Too good to refuse that deal, I bought a pair for myself, and a female version for the wife as well as some new riding sunglasses to get my free postage.
DHB are what I consider dam good quality for the price. Get in fast before the deal runs out I say…Continue

On the weekend, I went with a few mates who are seasoned riders. They were kind enough t give me tips and advice on improving my cycling technique. They decided to take me up Willunga hill on Saturday. I wasn't expecting it, and was kind of unprepared. (late night with not enough sleep, didnt water load as much as I should, felt a bit off with lungs) but I went along anyway to see what the fuss was about.
On the way there we did some mini sprints, learning the techniques of wheel…Continue
