Grand Slam 2 2013 - Pachyderms Powering Up!

Starting in Willunga is the most local an event ride gets to a dweller of the Deep South. After completing all of 38km of the previous Grand Slam at Mt Torrens and also having recce'd both loops of GS2 in the intervening period I was fairly sure that I could complete the full ride and had few excuses not to. The number of kilometres I had ridden in between GS1 and GS2 had increased markedly and a bit of weight had come off also, so this further added to my confidence level. Still, this was…

"I just like to ride my bike and have fun"

A great quote from Melissa Ansett after she won the Ingkerreke Commercial Mountain Bike Enduro at Alice Springs.

“Last time I just rode, this time I was raced it. But I didn’t think I would win, so it was a really nice surprise. Kind of weird in a way as I just enjoy riding, and do a few local races in my area, so to win a big event like this is pretty huge."

“It’s given me some confidence, and I’m not usually confident. But I’m not about to get a coach. I just like to…

My first ride on a road bike!

Well the day came around for my usual Wednesday ride but today was different as I was allowed to ride my husbands Giant TCR Advanced 3!

For the last six months I have been riding my Mountain bike with road tyres, it has served me well on my weekly rides and got me round my first Bupa Challenge back in January and I do still love it.…

Ride #47 SSRC "L" Ride number 3 - 12 starters & finishers

This group ride was organised by Andrew Watts (Wattsy) on the Adelaide Cyclists web site as the Southern Suburbs Road Cyclists "L" Ride number 3. Intended to attract new riders with a nice slow pace and not to difficult or long a distance it helps build a community of riders down the South of Adelaide. Today we started with 12 riders, most were experienced with a few new to group riding. Husband and…

Magill to Seacliff Return

Nice ~55km loop (clockwise) I ride occasionally. First time with the Android (MyTracks).

Glad I found the foot-bridge at the northern end of the Pat - thanks to a couple of female cyclists for pointing me in the right direction! Little bit windy today as well, sapped my speed all the way back from Seacliff. Was hoping for relief once eastern bound but to no-avail. Of course the ride to Seacliff was great (-:…

Winter Solstice Ride - 22nd June 2011

This was an extra-ordinary ride (for me at least) so I thought I'd try to describe why.

I had been wondering for a while if there was going to be a ride to mark the winter solstice, as there had been a summer solstice ride. The summer version was, as many people who have been on this site for a while would know, a ride that had a degree of tragedy attached to it and personally I was hoping to claim back a bit of fun and achievement for this particular solstice ride***. I…

Sakura311 charity ride

Sakura311 charity ride was on 9.4.2011.

I got up 3:30am and made 50???rice balls...

It was rain...and cold. I thought many riders didnt come today...

But more than 50 riders joined with me.

Also AC riders helped me as leaders and donated some foods. And school kids helped to make BBQ.

I could collect donations $875 at that day.

Thank you for your helping. If you were not there, I could not do this event...

Tonight I sent collecting…

The beach and the bike, Part1

It's summer time, and the rolling waves of Middleton were calling. But much as I love the surf, spending 10 days without a good bike ride just wasn't an appealing idea. But since the beach is a very do-able 100km from Adelaide, riding to the family holiday seemed like the obvious solution. It came at a handy time to train for the TDU Challenge Ride too.

So I put the call out to a few friends to join me on the ride. Early on Monday Jan. 3, I saddled up, left Mrs Snappy and the…

Mid week Afterwork Rides

Started throwing a midweek, afternoon ride (other than the ride home) into the mix.

Was told about a great little circuit in the Adelaide Hills by a mate. This circuit is pretty short (17Km) but is undulating the whole time.…

Challenges and our first group ride

This morning was our first group ride event. It was created by Mark 'Smudge' Matthews and Nick Hortovanyi to stir me out of my cycling comfort zone and get me up over them far hills to Lobethal. Long story short I got there, a bit slower than the rest of the group, but I rode it and earnt myself the moniker 'Cap'n Slow.…
