John Clark’s Review – Istanbul to Sinop
We have made it to the Black Sea once more! After a long break in Istanbul we have ridden for eight straight days covering 696 kilometres arriving in the beautiful town of Sinop. We saw Tim off as he…
Mid winter catch-up
Hello!
Wow what a winters day in Adelaide. Spectacular cycling weather and so many made the most of it. Cyclists everywhere in the hills, on Linear Park, at the Tweed Ride in the city and the cyclo-cross event in Victoria Park - I could not imagine how busy the beach roads must have been. Was it the Cadel effect (and how good was he!) or the weather? A member has already posted…

Sheoak Rd -power or die
Thought I'd give this a go today, with Pat... he's already admitted defeat, equipment failure. But for me it was interesting.. I attacked from the bottom, out of the saddle, but there's no way to keep up the momentum. I did manage to keep above 400W for about 150m but as fatigue creeps in, so the power…

Amy's Ride 2011
Amy's ride was the first major community ride I became aware of as a new cyclist last year. I set myself a goal of riding 30kms up the S Exy but the cycling bug bit and the goal changed to making it my first 100 km ride. That box was ticked last year ad a new goal is in place for this year, Amy's ride in 3h 20m, average 30km/h. I haven't yet managed to average that speed over that distance…

David Zabriskie needs to eat fish to get enough iron?
Pro rider David Zabriskie went vegan last year and since has riden the best TT performances of his life. Recently though concerned associates said he should 'add in some salmon for iron'..

I finally did GS3 today, solo. Barry was due to ride with me but is down with some kind of terrible fever, it could even be Man Flu.
Departed Williamstown at 09.30 and really enjoyed the 20 odd kms to Gawler thinking how good is this. Gawler to Kersbrook via One Tree Hill Rd and Humbug Scrub argh, a long long up hill stretch. Near the top of One tree hill road and near Alexander Ave I got swooped for the first time this season by a very persistant Magpie. Nice long downhill to…

Gday ADL
Was there any of you ADL members at Superdrome last night too??
Just interested to know if you was there as well.
I had fun at Superdrome last night,
Suprised I am to be in A group but couldnt keep up all the way because my legs was like clappers on the hire bike with a gearing too small so i did both A and B Group turns without stopping, ie intervals after intervals.…

On the nature of heroism
What is a hero?
Mia Freedman has been on the receiving end of some very vitriolic abuse this week for daring to suggest that sports people are not heroes. Because she did this in the context of Cadel Evan’s win in the Tour de France many cyclists and cycling fans have come out in defence of Cadel and to criticise Mia as an ignorant nobody. But I think lots of people may have missed the point Mia was trying to make (ok we might argue that she did it in a very clumsy way, and I suspect…

Hi There Adelaide Cyclists,
I have just joined your cool site (we have a similar one here in Canberra called The Berm), and I just wanted to ask the locals where would be a good place in Adelaide to live. I'm looking at moving over to Adelaide in 2012 and would like to buy a place in a suburb that is close to good riding facilities (Mountain Park Trails, good roads for training on etc).
Where I live in Canberra I am a 20 min bike ride from Stromlo Forest Park…

I heard it on the radio 891 this morning. Cadel Evans has signed a petition which seeks to make the Give Cyclists a meter reccomendation turned into law. Some discussion followed and the RAA had a rep on the show, unfortunately I was a bit busy at the time and couldn't hear too much of what was being said.
However, how would this be implemented under law. Is it really practical to suggest that motorists may not pass a cyclist unless they can give them a metre clearance or should it be…

Gday ADL
I have a funny story to tell...
I know that SBS is captioning the TDF live and highlights lately which is a good thing.
When I watch the Ch 7,9 or 10 news I have to say Im disappionted that they pefer to cover most of the sport news based on AFL, SNFL which is local news no offend here but I knda wish that Ch 7,9,10 would pay a bit more attention to our Australians that are racing in TDF for example Cadel, OGrady, Boonen etc. These blokes arent just racing 1…

My Bikes
For show and tell this week, I present to you my pedal powered steeds.
Zeke:
Zeke is my main ride, an Apollo Pepper. I've not done all that much modification - he's basically as new, except for the toe straps and cages (I got some decent ones after destroying the plastic cages through skid…

Acklands Hill Road - 25 years on
For a while I have been considering climbing Acklands Hill Road which is about an 8 percent climb out of Coromandel Valley to Cherry Gardens. Last time I cycled up this hill was 25 years ago when I was 20. Hard to believe it has been quarter of a century. Michael Warner mentioned it a few times and each time I was really did not want to try climbing it again as I know how tough it is to climb.
After hearing about Mark Fs successful ascent up the Corkscrew the thought of visiting…

Bicycles and the Carmageddon of Los Angeles
This weekend the American City of Los Angeles faces so-called "Carmageddon". A major north-south freeway is closed for about 16km whilst a bridge is partly removed as part of a widening project.
The knock-on effect of the closures led to fears of a traffic meltdown throughout this car-(psychologically)-dependent city.
Two newspaper articles discuss differing roles of bicycles in this event.

The Impossible Dream - Now Reality
Last night I was chasing a red tail light which belonged to another cyclist up towards the bollards on the Old Freeway. Normally when I climb in the dark I cant see too far in front and so just accept what ever comes and keep pedalling with the same intensity and cadence. Following a red tail red, I noted it started to climb in the distance, that I had to look up to see it. I was thinking, now this is going to hurt and was tempted to slow down when normally I wouldnt. The eyes send messages…
