Bus & Bike battles when lanes done poorly

Buses and cycling are two of the most sustainable modes of transport, and we should be planning for and encouraging both of them if we want to handle a future where we need to produce less green house gases, burn less precious oil, and keep a bit fitter. But over the last few weeks I've been realising, like Heather, that if infrastructure and planning is done badly they can seriously conflict.

Adelaide Cyclists website is being archived for the future

I received a nice email in the week from the State Library of South Australia. People do notice what you are saying in online forums. Now our thoughts will be there for the future.

Dear Adelaide Cyclists,

The State Library of South Australia has entered a partnership with the National Library of Australia, and is responsible for identifying South Australian web sites for preservation and will archive the titles, using appropriate 'gathering'…

Adding insult to injury

Yesterday I nearly passed out at work and ended up in the Emergency Dept at Modbury. Not such a good look really.

Over the past week or so I've been meaning to book a session with a physio and have committed myself to a bicycle (and rider) setup. On Friday and Saturday I rode the MTB into the city and on Sunday I my ride was just fellow Adelaide Cyclists for the meet up ride down the river. So nothing strenuous but… Continue

Ring my bell

I find it quite remarkable that so many on this group dismiss bells on bicycles. There may be occaisions when it is too dangerous to move your hand to ring the bell but perhaps the bell should be fitted in a place closer to your hand or perhaps you are not riding in a safe manner. We complain about motorists breaking the law who in turn justify their actions and decry all cyclists but cyclists seem to think it's perfectly understandable to break the law and disregard simple courtesies.…

Life post cars...

I just want to preface this blog by saying that we have not had a car since June last year when our last car was taken off the road.

From time to time on a day off I get to sit in bed and enjoy a cup of Jo with my wife. We sometimes read and sometimes surf the web and always chat about what we are into at the time. This morning Jewlz reminded me that we were supposed to be heading to Croydon Park (we live in Mitchell Park) for a friend's birthday party this afternoon and so I started… Continue

Project: Apollo bicycle build

I picked up an old fixed fork Apollo mountain bike over a year ago. It was in 'electric green'. I've stripped it down and resprayed it 'volcanic orange'. I don't know what the plan is from here. I could just put it back togeher, it could become a fixed gear or I might even turn it into an Xtracycle cargo bike... or just give it to Bikes for Refugees.Lessons learnt so far. Don't…
