No mandatory helmet law medical exemption available in SA

Unfortunately I suffer from an eye problem called central serous

retinopathy.

This problem is exacerbated by heat when exercising in particular and the reason for this letter when bike riding due to the exertion

required, if i wear a helmet for more than a few minutes at a time when

i am riding i notice my vision became damaged from this as i see

iridescent blue sparks due to pressure against the optic nerves in the

macula , i cannot keep my head cool… Continue

Steve, we might disagree on a few things but we are both passionate cyclists. Also I respect anyone who passionately makes a stand for what they believe in, whether I agree with it or not.

Stephen, I suggest that you start a group on AC for those with medical reasons who cannot wear a helmet. Another cyclist posted on AC. Find the regulations on exemptions for seat belts, and adults with disabilities cycling on SA footpaths. Plus the regulations on wearing helmets. Reckon it is Federal not State, so Conlon does not have to deal with it. Then search the web for Ministers who may be interested: Transport, Road Safety, Environment, Health, Disability, etc, and go from there. I am too busy with cycling advocacy to help you further. Sounds better coming from cyclists who know the various medical conditions.
