I's registered for Ride like Crazy and really keen to do it but the greedy side of me really wants to do the BUPA ride. Is it too much? Are any of you doing both rides? What's your past experience…Continue

My daughter is 7 and already 1 meter 25. She has shown a significant interest in cycling and I am keen to get her started. Is she too young? She is a mere 27cm shorter than me so I know she's not too…Continue

It's been two and a half weeks since my last ride. I have chosen work and family over my life partner (pictured) and I fear she will not easily forgive. But seriously, this weather has brought me…Continue

I know the Gully Grinders had a come and try session but I don't see a repeat in the events. Can anyone tell me if these track sessions are still on and any details you may want to share? Cheers.Continue

heather said… Maya, you say that bicycle quicker than car. You could look at an electric bike that would be easier on the hills and less sweaty. Quite a few are uni-sex with step-thru frames that suit dresses. Place your high-heels in a pannier and ride in crosstrainers. I utility cycle and wear casual clothing, rather than walk into shops and offices in tight lycra.
Thanx for the info on the Riverland do you get up there much??
Hi Maya, we never went. Heavy rains last winter washed many of the Grampians roads so we figured no point in going if we couldn't ride half the routes we had planned.
Vic Roads still list some roads as closed so you might want to check out your access before you commit to go. You can find road closure info at:
http://alerts.vicroads.vic.gov.au/?intcmp=HPE01005
But my reasearch dug up the ride info below. You can find details of all climbs listed at www.cycle2max.com.
Maybe next year for me - I'd still love to get there, these rides look awesome.
If you are a Mountain Goat, then climb Mt William, a gorgeous 10km (similar gradient to Norton Summit in SA, AUS) ascent leads you up to a carpark, from here duck around the boomgate and then expect a whole world of pain for 10-15minutes. This last two ks are disgustingly steep, and vomit inducing, and alpine country, no trees, just rocks and shrubs and wallabies. If you don't want that kinda pain, just try riding up and down around the Wonderland carpark loop, or head out to McKenzie Falls for a nice up and down roll. You will need to get out the saddle on a couple of corners, especially if you're gunning it. Go easy on the descents as there is wildlife everywhere. If you are a Flat Track Bully then there's always the roads North and South of Halls Gap for a flat spin. When you get there, get a Map from the Tourist Bureau in the middle of Town, and there are plenty of Fire Tracks if you take your MTB along.
