I recently purchased some new inner tubes and didn't realise until I got home that they were sized 700 x 20/28. I normally use 700 x 18/23. Can I use the larger tubes?

This guy is pretty accurate in his decriptions - the CRB is no worse than 10% and the Meg 9%. I'd agree that it didnt feel any worse than this.
Dahondude said… Hi Brad
Sorry, Ive only just seen this message. My recollection of the Hotham climb is that is was a really nice climb the whole way, and not anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be. My impression at the time may have been altered a little by the fact that the entire climb was in thick cloud so you could never see more than about 50m up the road so had no idea how close to the top you were. The Meg (the first really steep bit) passed without me even noticing it. The last two steep sections - CRB and something else I cant remember are separated by a short fast, windy descent section. To be honest I also didnt really notice the gradient as I was paying more attention to the weather - it was hailing! - and getting to the lunch stop before hypothermia set in. Certainly with my 39/27 it didnt seem any worse than the normal hills around Adelaide and definitley not as steep as Checkers or the Corkscrew or that nasty steep road up next to Belair National Park.
When are you off? Hope you have a great time and enjoy those beautiful climbs. I cant wait to get back there in Feb next year. Enjoy a few beers at the brewery in Bright too.
cheers
J
Dahondude said… Gday Brad, we stayed in one of the Ski Chalet's. It was organised by Bicycle Victoria as part of the 3Peaks deal. The chalets were nice (3-4 bedrooms) but Falls Creek is pretty much a place to just eat and sleep. To be honest I'd recommend staying in Bright (or Mt Beauty) unless you absolutely need to be in Falls Creek. Bright is one of the nicest towns I've ever been to. They have a few pubs, a bike shop and a great microbrewery by the river. Lots of caravan parks with decent cabins all within walking distance of the town centre. You can drive from Bright to Falls in less than an hour I reckon. Mt Beauty (at the base of the Falls climb) is also a nice little town, though I have never stayed there.
