Yesterday, while tackling one of my regular climbs, I noticed a creaking noise from the chainring area. Stripped this down when I got home, and a close inspection showed that one of the chain ring…Continue

heather said… Hi Terry, no lycra cycling clothing for me! I made one pair of black nix, disliked the synthetic feel, and quickly retired them. Casual clothing of big baggy shorts suit my utility cycling for walking into shops, libraries, appointments, even meeting transport authorities and politicians (I do much cycling advocacy). Cheers, Heather
heather said… Hi Terry, keep on cycling. I am a bit younger but could not cycle 40km at 30km/h. More of a utility cyclist and no lycra, but still a committed cyclist. You say no good cycling forum in Tasmania. AC has all sorts of conversations, and many do not depend on location. If you ever feel like some companions for touring, start a post volunteering to show AC members around Tasmania! Cheers, Heather
heather said… Hi Terry, Just noticed that you live in Tasmania so not much cycling in Adelaide CBD! Welcome to AC. Heather

The usual north west coast Tasmania group ride on Thursdays did not eventuate today with many away / holidays / working etc. I took the opportunity to take out my restored steel frame Kuwahara Triathlon ( see my pics ), for a good run. Starting from home just west of Burnie, I headed east through the town and along the coast, through Penguin and on to Ulverstone. Weather was perfect, a sunny day, light breeze and 20 C.
One lap around the town of Ulverstone and then headed back home.…

Another tough ride today of 53 km. Approx 35 of that was hills, with about 600 metres equivalent total in altitude of climbing, and I now feel that the combination of hills, wind, cold and old age should be avoided ! I did manage to do my turn at the front, and made up for that by hanging off the back on more than one occasion. Some areas inland have had a dusting of snow, and as the wind was from the south, we all felt the effect of those conditions - - I am not sure if this rider wants to…

Wow, another week gone by already. The Thursday group ride, this time more of the same with plenty of hills, was on again yesterday, saw the return to the group of one of the female riders, absent for a few weeks afer the birth of her baby.
Just one km from the start, and we were into the locally well known Fern Glade climb. This is about five kms of steep twisting climbing, coming out at the top into farm country. After decending back down to the coast via a loop raod, it was back up…

Just seven riders on today's "Glam Ride" in the NW of Tasmania. Starting and finishing in Wivenhoe, a km or two east of Burnie, we headed west through that town, and after the turn off at Somerset, headed for Mt Hicks. There are many steep and long hillclimbs along the way, and at the halfway point, we noticed that we were down one rider. One of the girls had been visited by the dreaded puncture demon, right at the base of a steep climb. Two of the stronger riders went back down to assist,…
