The Good, The Useful, and the Ugly

Posted on April 10, 2012 at 23:30 5 Comments

Everything in life has it's ups and downs, and that includes riding a bike!

In the last few days I've had a swag of bike experiences which I thought I'd better share.

I'll start with the Good - I'm on track to reach my 800k's in April for the Ride Hard to Breathe Easy Challenge,  at 331km's so far. I've discovered some new hills (Coach Road, which, if you were interested, is not a good one for covering k's quickly, I think I almost had a heart attack up there, and Mt Osmond,…

Norton Attack!

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 13:29 7 Comments

I've had a pretty dramatic 24 hours.

First off, last night I was riding with a friend down prospect road, he swerved and clipped my tire, and I came tumbling down. (Just a couple of bruises, nothing too much to worry about). The bike was fortunately fine, and we went on our way. The guy who saw it happen probably thought we were a pair of idiots though.

Then this morning the two of us went for a slightly bigger ride, thought we'd tackle Norton Summit for the first time.…

10,000m

Posted on February 6, 2012 at 13:57 7 Comments

I'm about to hit a milestone. When I go for a ride tomorrow, I'm going to hit 10,000m climbed since the start of December last year. This will be in just under 600km, and around 26 hours on the bike. My average speed has increased from around 22k's an hour, to about 25/26.

I know some of you guys ride a huge amount more than that, and probably do 600km in about three weeks, but I'm still pretty happy with myself.

This summer has been the first time I've taken my cycling…

Snapped an Axle!

Posted on January 25, 2012 at 16:19 9 Comments

I was tightening up a wheel (nut, not quick release) before going for a ride this arvo, and snapped the front axle. So I put the back-up wheels on, and off I went, managed to get a pb too.

Does anyone know where to get a decent new axle? I had a look around on ebay, and they're available for cheap, but the material is described as 'metal' which concerns me.

At least the axle snapped when I was putting it on, rather than bunny-hopping a pot-hole, but I was pretty shaken…
