Visibility in the Rain

Started this discussion. Last reply by Martin Turner Jul 6, 2012. 22 Replies

Right, so after getting caught in the rain twice in as many rides, I thought it might be prudent to ask. Glasses on, or off? It seems to me that there is no winning - glasses on and they fog up…Continue

Hey guys, looking for some help in route planning! I'm planning a Beach Ride starting in town aimed at beginners, a slow 40-50k's or so, with a break in the middle. I've got some friends who are keen…Continue

"I'm a big fan of compacts. My bike came with a pretty weird cassette though, 12-30. The 12 means I lose some higher gearing which I'd appreciate, but the 30 means that I never, ever, have to grind. Even going up 20% gradients, I tend to…"

"Looks like fun. Might be better/tougher to add Montacute or Corkscrew instead of Balhannah? Or to do it as well for the truly insane... I recently did a 3x Lofty, Corkscrew+Marble Hill, Greenhill, and the Old Fwy. That was pretty tough. "

"Mt Osmond is super satisfying. One of my favourite hills. In a similar league are Knox Tce, Pound Road, and I'd say Corkscrew too. All of them have the joy of riding something tough, without the need to really grind up any 20% gradients. "

The Great Cycling God in the Sky said

The cycling lord in the sky said that I would go on a training ride.

By the cycling lord it was said that I would go out and climb.

And it was said that I would climb Norton Summit three times.

And upon reaching the summit, I would descend, only to turn around and climb right back up.

And on the first time, I would ride as hard as I could, to achieve a personal record

And it was done.

And on the second time, I would ride intervals, until my legs were…

A few milestones

Posted on August 13, 2012 at 18:00 5 Comments

I seem to have spent less time on here of late, although that certainly hasn't corresponded with less time on the bike! I just thought I'd share a few milestones that I've reached in the last month or so, as I start getting excited for the Dirty Dozen.

1: July 23, 2500 km Since I got Strava. I got Strava in mid Feb, so I've done maybe 3000km this year. This is not including commuting, because I'm too lazy to record the 5k's each way every day.  Currently I'm at 2,838km

My First (accidental) Century!

Posted on June 10, 2012 at 18:33 4 Comments

I did not really plan to ride 100km today. But in the end, I did. It wasn't fast, it wasn't glorious, I'm pretty exhausted, but I'm also pretty chuffed after riding my first century, and thought I'd share on here :)

I started out at a quarter to nine from Prospect, aiming to get to Dan's house near the top of Flagstaff Hill for ten. Going along Marion road was pretty flat, and the cool weather only encouraged me to ride faster. From the Start of Anzac Hwy to the start of Flagstaff…

The Good, The Useful, and the Ugly

Posted on April 10, 2012 at 23:30 6 Comments

Everything in life has it's ups and downs, and that includes riding a bike!

In the last few days I've had a swag of bike experiences which I thought I'd better share.

I'll start with the Good - I'm on track to reach my 800k's in April for the Ride Hard to Breathe Easy Challenge,  at 331km's so far. I've discovered some new hills (Coach Road, which, if you were interested, is not a good one for covering k's quickly, I think I almost had a heart attack up there, and Mt Osmond,…
