I will estimate that 52 to 60 cyclists attended the opening. I collected 45 signatures for the petition + 4 who had signed previously + a DTEI employee + Patrick Conlon + a cyclist who declines to sign (he is lobbying for the Prospect Road changes).

It was also great for networking. I spoke to many cyclists as they signed a petition of Prospect BUG to retain bicycle lanes on arterial roads. Mike Parnell signed the petition. I was wearing a T-shirt printed with 'keep bicycle lanes'. If you look…

Well done, all. A great day. I like Jeremy's point of "why not?". Why not put pedestrian / cycling elements into every new road development? Why not? Good stuff.

Nice article Sam, giving credit where credit is due. I am sorry to have missed the opening, as I think it's really important for cyclists to show their presence and support at opportunities like this - we need to put a human face to the statistical…

It was great to be part of the inaugural peleton. Shame the minister didn't ride over. I hope everyone who lives and travels from that way get a lot of benefit from it. Well done on the campaign.

Agreed Sam, it was a good opening to what looks to be an excellent piece of infrastructure. The tram stop looks really modern and clean (here's hoping that it will stay that way!), over pass is excellent, with an easy grade. Will be good to see once…

Today I managed to get to the opening of the new South Road overpass on Tramway Park - now known as the Mike Turtur Cycleway. I was a bit late (probably because I travelled there from Semaphore by car) and arrived just as the whole flotilla of cycli…

We might end up catching up with you at the Opening, group of us are grabbing coffee first in the City! Join us there at 7:00am if you like!

I'll be there by something on wheels.

Anyone wanting to ride to the Brekky tomorrow from the South together, if you want to meet at the north/eastern corner of Mitchell Park Oval at about 7.45 we can have a short ride in together. Otherwise, see you there.

To All and Sundry. Derek Hasel (@derek409) and myself will be meeting at Bocelli Cafe Cnr Hutt and Wakefield St at 0700 this Friday, for a coffee and a chat prior to riding down to the opening of the Cycleway. Would be great to catch up with any of…

Also Peter at Biomechanix (?spelling) in Wright St probably has esoteric stuff like that. What's 'dyou-race' BTW - something you lycra riders take with your coffee for speed? SP ;-(

Cycling is an active pursuit per se. You either ride the bike or you don't (as I have found to my cost recently). You can't talk about it credibly if you don't 'walk the walk'. That's why I personally support the current Minister - because he's on t…

I think the assumption is that no one will really print it off. What we should do is save it somewhere public (say at the BISA site) before it can be changed or otherwise done away with (as Trish White's transport plan was) and then - if the current…

My plan is still to grab a coffee in the City before this ride, about 7:00am, then ride along the cycleway to Glandore. Anyone else thinking similar? Derek may join me, he just needs to check timing for that day. All downhill from the City to Glando…

Will definitely support the call for 'achieving bike lane continuity on arterial roads'. On 10 March I attended Meet the Candidates and confirmed that the current Member for Adelaide will accept removal of a section of bicycle lanes on Prospect Road…

The Port to City Green Travel Corridor and the State Election

Last November I made a submission on BISA’s behalf to the Charles Sturt Council and to developers Hassells Ltd regarding plans for the Cheltenham redevelopment posted at the Council web site. See St. Clair Redevelopment Concept Plans at .

My submission was concerned in particular with the very poor definition and explanation of the cycling or shared-use pathway that apparently will run along the same… Continue

South Australia's restrictive bike regulations repealed!

Recently BISA wrote to Patrick Conlon, Minister for Transport, requesting his attention to potential conflict between this state’s relatively restrictive bicycle design rules (specifically Regulation 28) and the directions that community demand and the bike market were taking. We were alerted to this by an article published by Bicycle Victoria at their web site1, and by contact from Dr Dan Kortschak from Adelaide Uni. BV were criticising the regulations outlined in DTEI’s 2009 revision of its bo… Continue
