heather said… hi robert,
some months have passed since dwayne died, so perhaps i can now ask a sensitive question. was the driver charged or fined? my impression was that the driver was in error but not charged, although unfortunately not uncommon in aust. fining a negligent driver does not bring back a loved one, but it does send a better cyclist-safety message to drivers rather than one of "you won't be fined or lose demerit points for hitting a cyclist". i have been injured thrice but not one of the negligent drivers was fined.
there will be some sombre moments for you during dwayne's ride but try to think also of the support from fellow cyclists. i will not be there -- nursing cycling injuries as the result of poorly maintained road.
cheers, heather
