Hi,
The Stuart O Grady bikeway is a fabulous addition to our bicycle network, and I use it almost every day. There is one very dangerous spot though. At the very Southern end of the track there is about a 150m of road (Mill Road South) which is completely covered in very loose gravel, and I have seen quite a few people skid and fall off their bikes as they hit this loose section.
Would it be possible to have this section of road made safer ? Perhaps re-tarmaced or at very least…

We had 8 riders today, on this hilly route (5 rated climbs) , and for me it was my first ride since I burnt my hand ( Kitchen accident ), so I was a little unsure how I would fair on this trip.
We started by ascending Alexandra drive, which is a fairy steep climb on cold legs, but then were were soon into rolling hills, and heading towards Kersbrook. We had a few welcome stops at the crests of the hills we encountered to let the tail enders catch up,…

This was my first ride out with the "Gawler Wheelers" :
We met at Jaspers coffee shop in Gawler at 730am. With two ride options, that being a 55-km or 80-km loop up to Mallala and back. I chose the longer of the two, ( why not ?)
The ride was advertised as 25-30km/h, but we somehow managed to average 32.3-km/h so I think some one was fibbing on the web site :)
As Flat rides go, this was a super ride, with not too much wind and NO flat tires. plus we were only 4 minutes…

I don't know if anyone is interested, or perhaps your planning to ride UK's Lands End to John O Groats (LEJOG), but here is a web blog of my brother Alan's account of his own trip.
There are some great Photos and story of his trip : Enjoy...
Hi Pete. Was reading some of the posts about the One tree Hill road. Not sure whether you gus are talking about mountain biking or not. I know I did the Airstrip road once a few years ago on a mountain bike and it was so rough it bounced my pump out of its holders!
If you are talking mountain bikes I used to love doing the fire tracks up in the big park between Humbug Scrub private zoo and extending right down to the Resevoir and across towards Kersbrook. But on my bike I had to walk up a lot of the hills. Went out with a mate who managed to ride when I walked. But his legs were turning nearly twice to my one. So I took the bike over to Gary at Star Cycles and asked for a bigger sprocket and he suggested the bike was too worn out to be bothered with. So I ditched it and stole my wifes mountain bike (which she never rode). But it is a uni-sex bike and the frame is a bit small for me. So that's one of the reasons I have ended up playing with a road bike.
I have went over the handle bars a couple of times ( too steep decent, seat too high) on the (hybrid) MTB, and toppled sideways down a steep bank ( too steep to get a foot on the ground, and frame too large for me) and nearly killed myself on a fast decent when the track suddenly became very rutted and trapped both wheels! But at least there were no cars doing 100km/hr nearby. So its a bit of a toss up as to which variety - MTB or road biking is more dangerous as far as my expereinces are concerned.

Old Macdonald (Jon) said… Hi Pete,
Yep, not too bad. I was jinxed last night. Went over just out from Scuzzis, I think my brakes jammed on again, taking bike to Avanti this morning. Then half way to military road, bike in front of me pulled up short after leaving the lights and I went over again. Talk about a pain. Anyway caught up with you lot eventually at North Haven, but after riding 15 kms by myself couldn't keep up so rode back via South road Salisbury Highway. Lost some skin and got a big hole in my shorts!!
Which way did you lot come home? I didn't see Warren either was he in the pack?

Gus K said… Hi Pete,
Thanks. I am thinking about changing the way the forum displays - ie make is posts chronologically, not by recent activity as it is now. Mostly because the site has got bigger and it worked well when there was 1000 members but now perhaps it does't work.
I am also thinking of adding a box at the top that shows 3-5 latest posts (so in chrono order).
Regarding the recent comments etc you know that you can click on the word 'replied' in an update and go straight to the comment?
I'm always more than happy to take suggestions on stuff like this.
Thanks for this!
Angus
