heather said… Can you imagine car parking being designed as 'arty'; disguised as something unrecognisable to drivers; not suiting the purpose; and hard to use? Cyclists should not be expected to accept sub-standard bicycle parking that does not meet Australian Standards or Austroads. This can happen when a local council or other authority overlooks standards when commissioning an artist to design bicycle parking.
Adelaide City Council has followed standards with 'arty' bicycle parking of a 'supported post' at the Hilton Hotel and 'pretzels' at the State Library. However, the latter cost more than 'tried and tested' bicycle parking. I would prefer more average bicycle parking that follows standards, than a few designs that are artistic but sub-standard.
