Patchwork Repairs on the Crafers Bikeway
5 Replies

Over the last while, i've noticed the patch work repairs on the bikeway just after you cross over Mt Osmond road heading toward Devil's Elbow. You'll recognise it, as all the black lines all over the…

On the 500 if you are following a course you get a basic map. But yes, there isn't a big map display. Have you looked much into ANT+ devices?

For a little more.... Garmin have a Edge 705 which I have been asking around & looking at which may extend the usefulness as it is a slightly more multifunction device. The big advantage for me over the 500, is that it has mapping. As well as the ca…

Great. Thanks for the info. My concern with the o/s models is that they may run on different map grids and datums, thus giving you data that might appear correct but will actually be wrong. I am trying to find the technical information as to what e…

Hi Liam, I believe there has been a firmware upgrade that has now fixed some of those issues. I press the stop button sometimes instead of the lap button and that causes a couple of issues until it resets. On the whole though the GPS tracking works…

Hello Nick, Just wondering how you are getting on with the edge500? I have been looking into buying one of these units, but have noticed there seems to be a few experiencing problems - things like data not being captured/stored/downloaded properly.…

Clarendon bakery is always a good choice but the Vale has it's own delights too.

I did :). Got lost though heading towards Marino on the Sea to Vines trail. They've closed part of the track and the directions posted as an alternate route were terrible. Ended up going down Lonsdale Highway :(.

Great post Nick, thanks. I, like you, are a bit of a gadget junkie but don't get to buy everything I want. I am also a bit of a GPS nerd. While I would love a Garmin I have had quite a lot of good success from my Nokia running Nokia's Sports Tracke…

Michael, I'd be nuts to do that with the speeds I'm getting up to. The tyre was also worn as it was racing grade. Each to their own though. Hey, my blog post wasn't really about tyres. Maybe you should take that conversation into the forums. Cheers…

A cut-up outer layer of rubber is no reason to replace a tyre, since protection against flats and blowouts is actually provided by the casing. The rubber just provides grip, and unless large patches of casing are exposed, it's fine. People toss far…

Heat and/or cold (e.g. hot air gun, freezing spray) may also help. And you won't skip the grease next time, will you? :-)

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that I'd worn out another rear tire. Its a habit I seem to have. Luckily I had a new tire ready and quickly replaced it. I thought I'd change the front as well (was looking rather cut up), as a few long rides were approaching, and it had been on since just after the 2010 Tour Down Under Challenge Ride.

I toke the front wheel off, was struggling a little and then it came free. I heard something bouncing on the floor. It was the front speed sensor. I'd som… Continue

yes I cycled damnit! And did a pretty good job considering how RIDICULOUSLY hungover I was. I got home at 3:30 this morning as well.

And I couldn't finish the pancakes. Quite shameful all round for me really.

I will get on twitter, eventually, but I'm writing many an essay for a masters at the moment. I'm terrified that it'll be one more distraction that I don't need!

More importantly, just wanted to ask, how's that Hilary Duff going with getting you up Mount Lofty? Is it your secret weapon to turning those pedals eh?

Hi Nick, good to see you yesterday, yeahh I do need a photo, better take one soon. Perhaps we can catch up for a ride one weekend (Sundays are generally race days but there are occasional Saturdays free when kids sport doesn't clash).

Hey... nice playlist. Icehouse/ Flowers is probably my favourite record. I've really only just rediscovered it.
