I commute from Salisbury to Port Adelaide (Port Expressway)and was curious about the cyclist's death on the 7th of October 2010. I came across your site (Google Search) and began reading the feed back on the death, the comments about the theft of items left as a monument at the location (which I pass daily) its scary to think that these characters walk amongst us.
The South Australian Governments have sat on their hands when it comes to cycling infrastructure & to think the Tour Downunder as held in a state with this attitude to spending on cyclists infrastructure, compared to other states,
Anyway I'm also a volunteer with BicycleSA, Cycle touring is another passion, Mawson trail, UK,
Netherlands, France , Germany, etc & Tasmania, The out back (off beaten tracks of coarse).
My profession is an Occ. Health Safety & Envirinomentist.

Bike vs Car

Hi, I'm Martin "Avid determined cyclist",

I was involved with the "Ride of respect for Dwayne" accepted as ride leader as I have been commuting from Salisbury to Port since gaining a OHS professional position at Port Adelaide (3 yrs) I volunteer as rides marshal for Bicycle SA for many years (trained SAPOL traffic controller). I have commuted in Melb. for 6 years (1 car door accident) since moving to Adelaide in 2000, I've been hit 6 times by cars, put in hospital 3 times as a… Continue

Martin, I invite you to join Look For Cyclists and post your comment (under discussion Experiences?). Preferable to me approving your comment on my page where it could be overlooked.

Hi Martin, while searching AC, reminded that you had a collision last year. Wondered if you would like to contribute to the new group Look For Cyclists. With a profession of OHSE, and passion for cycling expressed above, would welcome your input. Cheers, Heather

Hi Martin.

Welcome to the community. I think you have probably found the right cycling group. Many of us were incredibly saddened by the death of Dwayne. As you probably know there is a Ride for Dwayne next weekend. I also learnt in the week that the items were stolen from the site. Members of this community have placed a Ghost Bike in the past and will try to again. It's usually up to the will of an individual.

Your comments about SA's investment in cycling will also be heard by agreeing members. I read in a great book called Pedalling Revolution: How Cyclists are Changing American Cities that as investment and promotion of cycling in cities goes up accidents, injury and deaths in cyclists goes down. We are trying to get that message across to our goverments. Which this site does get read by some powerful people and also why we have let local council candidates promo their cycling platforms on the site. Start local!

Cheers
Angus
