Off the bike

Posted on June 18, 2011 at 17:11 12 Comments

No riding this weekend after pulling some muscles in my back. Had an adjustment at my Chiropractor this morning, but he told me to rest up.

I don't know what's worse the back pain or the pain of not being able to ride?

Anyway I'm planning to go watch some of the PACC riders at Mt Pleasant on Sunday.

Auntie Doll

Got some sad news today my Great Auntie Doll (Dorothy) died at 10.10am this morning at the age of 89. While we knew her time was near it is still a sad occasion as she was the Matriarch of the family. She was also very special to me as the way she lived her life was an inspiration to me with the love and the care she showed to everyone she knew. Many of what I believe are my good qualities I gained from her.

My Cousin (her Daughter) who was with her when she died said she passed away…

Public Holiday

Posted on March 14, 2011 at 10:03 9 Comments

Today I rode to work on the Adelaide Cup Public Holiday. It was great to ride down Payneham Road with hardly a car in sight. Didn't see a single bus there were no near misses or people yelling abuse at me because I dared to ride a my bike our their road. I wish everyday could be like this. I even did the 11kms in about 18 minutes without really trying.

Red Light Runner

Posted on December 20, 2010 at 13:06 24 Comments

Today Monday 20DEC I was crossing King William St at Rundle Mall with the pedestrian lights when a cyclist rode through a red light weaving through the pedestrians. I said him "hey you've got a red light mate", to which he just ignored me and kept on riding. It is idiots like this that give us law abiding cyclists a bad name.

Hi Mark

Did you make the most of the sunny weather this afternoon?  I spoke to Rosie yesterday and told her that until third term break Saturday mornings are a no go for me as I have BSF commitments during term.  The GW ride will have to wait until then.  Have you registered for the TDU next January? Hi Mark

This friend request is unexpected - well thank you :-)
Though your comments have been critical of my view i don't mind that anymore. I am sure other people would wish to ask the same. A fair question is an opportunity to explain something more and that it is not always a negative.

Cheers Steve

Hi Mark,

Today I received a newsletter from Rachel Sanderson MP. The Autumn 2012 edition which can probably be found at http://rachelsanderson.com.au.  On the last page is an article 'Support for depression sufferers and carers'. You might like to post on your group.

. . . Beyondblue aims to provide clear and comprehensive information about depression and anxiety in their booklets 'A guide to what works for depression' and 'A guide to what works for anxiety disorders'. Copies of the free booklets as well as important contacts fridge magnets are available from our office, or just call and we can post them out to you . . . If you or someone you know is suffering from depression or anxiety, do not ignore it, contact Beyondblue today for a confidential chat on 1300 22 4636.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to Vote For Cyclists. A very active group during the last local council elections, and probably when the next state or federal elections. Still useful to post info because some of the members are now on local councils.

Cheers, Heather

Last year ACC held public discussions on its future Integrated Movement Strategy. Repeat that ACC wants to reduce through traffic in the CBD. I suggested that on urban arterial roads with enough space, to replace travel lanes with bus -- cyclist only lanes. The result would be public transport that is faster than private cars, and an incentive to use public transport or active transport of cycling. ACC said that had been suggested for council areas leading into the city. One road that comes to mind is Main North Road, between Gepps Cross and the city.

I do support good cycling infrastructure but feel it will be some time before Australian politicians / authorities have the guts to do it. My AC post got some negative reaction, from cyclists who do not want safer vehicle speeds when cycling, because they want higher speeds for when they do drive. So how to get support from non-cyclists?

My discussion was closed, hence this comment here.

John Rau, Attorney-General, recently stated that there is nothing he can legally do about the Eugene McGee case. Nick Xenophon said otherwise.

On Wednesday 14-Dec-2011 I received a response from Nick Xenophon's office.

I have posted extract from LEGAL PRACTITIONERS ACT 1981 - SECT 82 at

http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/group/lookforcyclists/forum/topics/legislation-1

Please read (2) (a) A charge may be laid under this section by—the Attorney-General; or

8 (a), (b). (b) is satisfied that the person is guilty of unsatisfactory conduct,

Make your own decision as to if you will write to Rau or other politicians. Keep any letter cordial and factual.
