The Flinders Ranges Outback Epic is a point-to-point mountain bike race in the Flinders Ranges run by Event Strategies. There were three distance options to choose from: 205km, 109km and 64km (PDF map). All finished at the Wilpena Pound Resort. The 205km race started at Wilpena (one huge…

I thought I'd share the route I take when I'm riding to work as an example of how to not think like a car driver when choosing a route that is safe and enjoyable to ride. It isn't perfect but it is the best I've come up with so far. If you have suggestions on how to improve it let me know.
I used to ride through the Southern park lands and down Greenhill Rd but was not happy with the speed and safety. The park lands are slow and Greenhill Rd, particularly in the morning, is dangerous.…

After a week or so off the bike due to work pressures it was good to get out for a mountain bike ride this morning.
While driving over to Stirling I was surprised to see plenty of roadies out on the wet roads. Good to see. However, on the way back when the fog had set in it was not so good to see that most of the roadies didn't have any lights. It is winter folks. The weather changes rapidly. Bring your lights regardless of how sunny it may be in the 'burbs when you walk out your…

The LHT has been in service now for three years so an update is due. Where does time go!?
The LHT has been performing very well and very reliably as a commuter. I'm still riding it to work up to three times a week and enjoy every ride. I wish I had time to take it on longer rides.
The big news is that the LHT now has a disc front brake. Surly started selling the Disc Trucker a while ago and decided to also sell the disc fork. As I've mentioned in previous posts the braking is…

A great quote from Melissa Ansett after she won the Ingkerreke Commercial Mountain Bike Enduro at Alice Springs.
“Last time I just rode, this time I was raced it. But I didn’t think I would win, so it was a really nice surprise. Kind of weird in a way as I just enjoy riding, and do a few local races in my area, so to win a big event like this is pretty huge."
“It’s given me some confidence, and I’m not usually confident. But I’m not about to get a coach. I just like to…
