Hi Luke, it does sound like a good idea. I guess the con that occurs to me is reducing the flexibility that is one of the great things about bike travel. But then having a routine for work commuting makes sense anyway. I guess the benefits of socia…

Reading the Mar/Apr 2010 Australian Cyclist turned up a reference to bike bus  It would be great to see some bike buses become active in Adelaide. I think the idea of being able to join a scheduled group of cyclists for a group ride to work is very…

Check out the folding commuter bike by Strida, now available in Australia, at www.strida.com.au. I saw one in the CBD this month. It could fit a niche market very well.

It is the responsibility of local council to remove road debris on residential streets. Three months ago I reported the cycling hazard of glass at the intersection of two local streets, one a bikedirect route. There is still some glass there, althou…

Here is the ABC News version. I would have no hesitation in using lanes like these if they were installed along my commute. Education prior to their introduction is the key. If Sydney just installs these lanes without any attempt to educate cyclis…

This great news. In a what seems like a few short months Adelaide Cyclists has gone from your idea to something that will be recorded for future generations. A well deserved recognition of your efforts in my opinion.

Peter, There is a number motorcyclists can call to report debris on the road that impacts their safety. The idea is that if you discover gravel on a road half way around a corner you report it and someone comes and cleans it up. I'm not sure they'd…

Surly Long Haul Trucker - 6 month update

The LHT hasn't done as many kilometres as I had hoped in the first six months. The blame for that lies with the rider, not the bike. I have ridden it to work quite a few times but because my commute is a 75km round trip and I'm not a fast rider it is difficult to find the extra couple of hours every day for bicycle commuting.

While the kilometres are a bit low the first 6 months have given me a good insight to life with the LHT. It has had a few tweaks in that time but has essentially remained… Continue

Surly Long Haul Trucker - First week

The LHT was pressed into commuting duty every day last week and the result has left me very happy with my purchase. Every day I benefited from the comfortable riding position and the fact that I didn't have to carry a pack on my back.

The Brooks B17 saddle is slowly breaking in after only 140km. I've been told it takes 1000km for them to break in properly but I am already very happy with it. The one benefit of the Brooks that nobody seems to mention is that it flexes a little when you hit a bum… Continue

Surly Long Haul Trucker - First ride

What a great day to get out on the bike. The early morning threat of rain has disappeared and now it is cool, clear and overcast with a little bit of a breeze.

So, where to go on my first ride on the Long Haul Trucker (LHT)? Somewhere with climbs, corners, descents, varying road surfaces that is an enjoyable ride. A return trip to Mt Lofty summit was an obvious choice.

First a description of the bike. It has 60cm frame and components as described on the… Continue

Surly Long Haul Trucker - Purchasing experience

It is not often that I'm impressed with service I have received these days but the service provided by Pete and Lia from Bio-Mechanics Cycles and Repairs deserves to be mentioned.

After Lia contacted me on this site to let me know they sold Surly bikes I rode into their shop the next day. Pete spent an hour checking my fit on my current bike and discussing options and possibilities. I was very comfortable that he'd listened to what I wanted and provided me… Continue

Which one do you mean, the big one or the smaller A frame one?

The A frame one came from www.royalrooster.com.au

No links for the big one though.

Sorry about the delay, have been off work with a cold and a couple of days off.

Cheers

Hi Luke,

Yep got your message and joined up just before going home last night.

Tracey and I are both well and looking forward to a few days off over Easter to get a bit more done around the house.

Not much riding lately but it should be easier to ride to work now that daylight savings has ended.
