"You should have taken the downhill tracks back for a loop. Instead of turning around at the top, keep heading to the road, then stick to the left for more trails. That beast flies!"

Heh Lincoln

I weigh 100Kgs, plus I have a LOT of stuff I carry on the bike PLUS tow a trailer (Either seat post "Tagalong" or Axle mount "BOB style" trailer.

I break wheels, axles, spokes frequently when commuting. I rarely break a bike touring... Slower speeds and less harsh impact on dirt.

How strong is the back axle?

I have bought some Maxis wheels for my MTB (approx $400 from LBS) and that seems to have solved wheel problems. Sealed bearing axle (not downhill size... just standard size).
