"Brake squeal is quite normal until they warm up and bed in. Even then there will always be a bit of squeal! Try riding with the light brake pressure and see if the noise reduces after they warm up. If not follow the advice of other responses."

"If they sound anything like the one I heard sunday am, I can understand this comment. I could hear the squeal from just outside the devils elbow tunnel, and the bike hadn't even come around the corner up the hill. Seriously loud squealing."

"I think I may have heard one of these coming down the old freeway yesterday, was seriously the loudest squealing brakes I've ever heard, bike or car...... I sometimes get squealy brakes on my MTB but only when they are dirty from not being…"

"+1 For Durianriders comment. The sound coming from the brakes is not affecting braking performance, especially if the bikes are fitted with low end Shimano Disc setups then this noise is normal. If the "Bunyip" Scream drives you…"

"Thanks to all the people who have given really useful advice. Durian - I'll take comfort in the fact that as you get older you won't think cranking up the volume on the brakes is the best thing for your soul."

"Just ride em till they stop squeal'n. Go to any world cup XC race and its 10 grand bikes squealing around the corners and on the DH's. If squealing brakes makes the sunday ride hell then you need to shift your perception Jen. ;) "

"Assuming rotor pad alignment is correct ask the shop to face the brake tabs. Paint on the frame will affect the alignment of the caliper and then how the pads contact the rotor. Check rotor bolts are ALL at even/correct torque Swap rotors. i had one…"

""Sounds like a Mega bike sale?" What do you mean by this Frank? As a prospective customer of theirs, anything I need to, or should, know about? Just asking - PM me if it's not for public publication cheers"

"The cause is often the pads rubbing on the spokes of the rotor. Small washers to space the caliper out further so the pads only rub the brake surface can be the solution. "

Adelaide to Melbourne: Anyone Interested?

Posted on October 30, 2011 at 13:29 3 Comments

Don't know if this is the right place to post this ... but I'm here now, so here goes.

I'm planning on riding Adelaide to Melbourne along the Great Ocean Rd. Setting out on Monday 28 November and taking 10-11 days. I've done this ride on three previous occasions and thought it would be nice to have company this time - perhaps 3 - 4 people along. Let me know if you're interested.
