A small and committed contingent of 13 Spartans assembled at the Gates this morning for our first ride to Lofty. An appropriate number given that today is November the 13th. Lucky we are not a…Continue

andrew zisos said… Hi Frank just checking if you worked for Telstra in Currie St a few years back now?

Hi Frank,
I have sourced a bike that a friend is going to loan. Apparently it is pretty good. The Shimano gear set is better than the 105 too. I'll won't know myself. I haven't ridden for over a 1 1/2 weeks as I have had a cold. Hope to get back on the road sometime this week.
I'm hoping to join you for your next ride to Lofty on my new mount. We'll see.
Keep in touch.
Regards,
Tim
Hi Frank, great to make friends with another cyclist! I had a great day last weekend, bringing up the rear and with great support from Werner. It felt good to make the distance. Flute going well. We had visitors from Victoria stay with us for a couple of days. They're a very musical family so we had a jam session with flute, guitar, cello, violin, piano and drums. Great time had by all. Got on the bike today after a week of visitors and doing not much.

heather said… I posted the info below so you know that another can relate to not predicting silly drivers every time, and that collisions can affect one's confidence for a while. I do not have children to support and nurture, but wonder if a collision confined one to a wheelchair, how one would manage daily tasks. Fortunately my collisions do not rate as serious.

I can relate to the event description. I was cycling north along the southern section of King William Road. A taxi driver travelling south stopped at an intersection while preparing to turn right. So I kept on cycling, then suddenly he turned across my path. He had stopped for a car behind me that quickly overtook me. As soon as the car passed, the taxi turned across my path. A near miss only, but how do you predict all the silly drivers?
I was hit and injured, then again 3 months later on my new replacement bike, when heading home from the bike's complimentary first service. Shook my confidence -- understatement. Then late the next year I went on a mainly off-road supported cycle tour. Thankful that I had few vehicles to contend with. Could appreciate the scenery, flora, wildlife and bird calls. The tour got me interested in cycling again (until the next impact).
heather said… Hi Frank & AC friend,
I have other AC friends that I have not met. I am not up to the energetic rides of Cancer Voices so cannot predict when we will meet. Each in their own way contributes to cycling, some by being visible on the road, others by advocacy, and you inspiring others to keep on cycling.
Cheers, Heather
